As some of you know, I have several Sparty friends. Every year on bye-week, I go to an MSU game with my Sparty friend from work. Well, she no longer works there and is now retired, but formerly from work. This just happened to be the UW vs MSU game this year..what a nice coincidence. Last year, I had to watch that crapper against Purdue. Anyway...

Her plan was to get to my place at 3 and head into EL (about a 15 minute drive from my place.) Personally, I didn't want to spend 4+ hours at B-Dubs, so I delayed our departure until about 3:45. Ran into a dead standstill of traffic on the freeway...oh she was upset with me at this point. It appears that someone tried to go from the far lane into the Trowbridge Rd exit (this is the exit a lot of people get off at for the MSU games, its the worst choice of the possibilities), they swerved right into the barrel barricade...we usually park in any number of parking structures around the restaurant, but all of them were completely full, another reason why she wanted to leave early...we ended up parking on a street about 2 miles from the stadium...B-Dubs was about at the halfway point. 2 hour parking 8am-6pm and no parking midnight - 2am...That info comes up later

We arrive at BWW at about 4:30, which is perfect for me, friend still mad...eat a really good burger, drink 4 beers, watch the lame games (neb-minn and lsu-auburn) then head out to the game...good service, good atmosphere at bww's, and good food and beer...tab $72 after tip...which was perfect. This is one of the things i feared if we had arrived at 3:15 was that I would spend over $100, but it worked out good.

Got to game, said hi to all around, new people in front, older couple. Last year there were 3 "brahs" that wanted to play up-down every single play and they did that thing where they sat on their thighs, so their asses hung into my leg space and kept bumping me the entire game. I almost hit one of them last year, anyway, this was much better, 2 quiet folks, but they were unfriendly and never turned around or talked to anyone around them the entire game...still not entirely bad, but my friend likes to talk to everyone around...I tried to convince her that having 2 quiet people in front isn't the worse thing in the world, but she wasn't having any of it...noticed drunk, hot blond, college-age chick smiling at me one row back...boyfriend glaring at me HaHa

so UW opened dominating, went up 14-0 off an early fumble from MSU and we all figured the blowout that we all knew was coming had been started. UW gets the ball back looking to go up 21-0 as they are running at 4-6 yards a pop and MSU can't stop anything. First tactical error, Belema insists on having Wilson pass, heaves a crazy, desperation pass 40 yards downfield to no one that gets intercepted. MSU ends up moving the football a little and punting. I go for my first bathroom break...

bathroom, there's about 500 people in the bathroom. they're cleaning up puke everywhere, including where someone threw up in one of the troughs. I hold down my gag reflex, quickly finish my business, and run out...horribly, horribly disgusting...grab my ice cream sandwich and a $4 water for my friend and head back to the seats...

While I was gone, MSU sacks Wilson in the endzone for a safety (more passing?) has the ball back and is moving down the field, long double reverse later, the score is now 14-9...Wisconsin moves the ball down to the 13 yard line, 4th and 1 (tactical error) Belema doesn't go for it, surprises all of us, sets up for field goal, fg gets blocked...MSU goes right down and scores, quickly holds UW, forcing them to punt, blocks punt, recovery in end zone...drunk, hot girl has started standing on our bleachers and keeps catching herself on my shoulders...

MSU dominates the next 25 minutes, going up 31-14, while UW consistently runs for 6 yards and then throws bad passes or gets sacked while attempting to pass...

drunk, hot girl disappears for long periods of time, keeps coming back to hang on my shoulders, bf is getting mad at me...I wasn't doing anything to encourage her though...

UW finally decides to start playing again, scores 17 straight to tie the game, partially thanks to Dantonio tactical error of continuing to try to make Cousins throw the ball, which kept falling incomlete, stopping the clock...UW ties game 31-31 with 1:15 left...drunk, girl has started leaning completely on me with her chest on my back and massaging my shoulders at regularly intervals...women are crazy...maybe she was trying to make her bf mad, who knows?

MSU gets the ball, UW calls timeouts forcing MSU to try to move down the field, even though I think MSU was content to play for OT here...MSu gets the ball to the 45 yard line of UW to set up for hail mary. I watch play develop seeing Nicholl trailing. I'm just about even with the goal line up about 20 rows...perfect view of the hail mary catch and Nicholl struggling to score...first thought by me was that he got in, even though his back was to me, and i couldnt see the ball. Refs spot the ball at the 1 and they go to review...I am firmly convinced that they will confirm the call and that we're headed to OT...time is about 1130. i tell friend, if this goes to OT, you're getting a ticket...she says that she doesn't care.

ref comes back and reverses call, stadium goes wild, irritating uw fans around us cry (they were really irritating) i was shocked that they found conclusive evidence either way...i nudge friend and tell her that we have to move to get to the car...

we make it back to the car at 11:51 narrowly avoiding the irritating parking ticket police...

All in all, a fun experience even though I was secretly rooting for UW (better for UM obviously) Of course, the stadium is ugly, the bathrooms horrible, several people were getting escorted around by the police after the game...usual for a nightgame.

must have been less than 2 miles to the car, but it seemed like 2 miles...

Good idea, somebody would have busted you on that

Was anybody projectile vomiting next to you while you peed?

no thankfully. Although, there was a large number of people that just seemed to be hanging out in the bathroom...really weird

Wilson was called for a penalty for intentional grounding that lead to the first safety; he wasn't sacked. they pressured him, and he threw the ball out of bounds, without getting out of the pocket.

Ok, was unsure because I was in the bathroom when it happened...i was still right, though in assuming that it happened during a passing play...I think they should have ran the ball and then run the ball some more, which would have prevented stuff like this.

Sooo did you go home with both girls or what

haha no. I am a happily married man. The person I went with is just a friend from work and I just left the drunk girl with her bf that she is obviously not pleased with...

One thing that I forgot to mention, that I thought was pretty cool. When the MSU players ran out of the tunnel, they must have picked the 3 largest dudes on the whole team and run them out first. Those 3 guys running out the tunnel first was pretty damn impressive. Those guys were monsters, especially that Pickleman guy. I'm pretty sure all 3 of the guys are d-linemen. The D-line of MSU is absolutely monstrous. I didn't get that from seeing them on tv, but they sure are huge in person.
