Valedictorian at a High School Graduation Reads the Our Father - Who Gives a Shit?

The theory I've read that I like the most is that there is an afterlife and it includes enlightenment and that the various takes that include an afterlife are just different approaches to the process of coming to terms with who you were and what you did and how you impacted those around you from an informed perspective.

I was about to post "that's sweet."

Then I remembered how much Red hates when I post that anything about him is sweet.

He reads me the riot act, actually.

Anyway, that was kinda the premise for that Albert Brooks - Meryle Steep movie Defending Your Life.

Rip Torn also had a really good role in that movie.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "sweet". Sweet like a 90's teenager would use the word or sweet like the word was used before that? The latter fits better in my mind. If I deserve being called that...maybe I should read myself the riot act. I'm moving too much into this territory and nobody wants to be Buster.

I wonder in netflix has that Defending your Life movie.

where exactly does this afterlife come from? where is it? It's MAGIC!!!!

The same place consciousness comes from. Also MAGIC!!!!

Ha, ha...nice.

This notion has always made me open to the possibility that we are indeed, a part of a life force, and there could be something that continues afterward, and something that came before that we aren't aware of.

I never get any more specific about it than that though.

Free online stream.

You're welcome.

I looked up Silver Linings Playbook at Shockshare and I was prompted to install Graboid.

Is that program safe, and cool, and stuff?

But what is immortality going to be like? Christians, Jews (the ones who believe in an afterlife, obviously not the ones who don't), Muslims, Mormons, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccum...a whole bunch of other ones - they all have a different picture of immortality.

Something inside one's self living on afterward doesn't really make people who have a "maybe there's something, maybe there's not" perspective all that nervous, at least the ones who I know...

Besides agnostics aren't specifically unbelievers.

Yeah, well only one of these faiths had a guy who hung himself to a tree to preserve eternal life, so I'm going to follow Him.

Don't use sockshare as a search.

Use this link, and never install ANYTHING except the divx codex incase you want to use the links that run on DivX player and not the Flash player.

That link is full of movies, TV shows, etc. [FYI I have found most of the best links are either sockshare or putlocker links]

You got any science to back that up?

science has apparently narrowed it down.

linky.
"It appears that the habitat of consciousness is not the cortical region at the bottom of the extended hierarchy of cortical areas dedicated to vision. Consciousness is restricted to higher regions, possibly those that are engaged in a reciprocal, two-way communication with the prefrontal cortex, the seat of planning."
And anyways, all that means is we don't know it... YET.

but we will. the inexorable march of scientific knowledge continues.

Assface.

You misread the article. That article is about where consciousness does not reside. By process of elimination, there's a suggestion that it resides in "higher regions", but that's different from scientific evidence that that's where it's at.

Nice try, but this is a fundamentally different animal. The article you link to even says so.

There's a fundamental problem with a scientific explanation of consciousness. If it can be reduced to mechanistic processes fully governed by the laws of nature, then free will is only an illusion. If free will is an illusion, then it provides no evolutionary advantage. Free will (and, I believe, consciousness) would be from an evolutionary perspective, unnecessary. I think it takes a lot faith in some strange concept of reality to write off free will as an illusion and consciousness as unnecessary. I can believe in remarkable things developing over time if they provide a benefit that natural section would select. But free will and consciousness are pretty amazing phenomena to arise without evolutionary pressure.

Believing in an all-powerful Creator is easier than that.

Well, I there's as much evidence that actually being true as there is for all the rest of them, so if a person is gonna pick one, that one's as good as any, I guess...
