Buster Olney posted on his twitter account minutes ago that Verlander just finished up a 56 pitch BP session. Verlander double checked with Leyland before throwing the BP session just to make sure he wouldn't be used tonight.

Just weird that if he would be fine for a 56 pitch BP session that he couldn't have given a couple innings tonight if needed. Seems to have gotten several questions raised on twitter about this now.

In game vs BP session is a bit different. I'm sure he could have but it doesn't really matter, JL doesn't want him to.

I agree 100% and it is the right decision.

Using or not using Verlander is not going to make a difference tonight. I have no problem with not using him.

no guts, no glory Leyland. at least he could have had J.V. looked at by the trainer and team doctors to see if they give him the go ahead. just my .02

Whether you like Leyland or not its obvious he has confidence in all his players. So for him, not having JV doesn't matter much. He feels Max or the BP can come through when needed.

Bingo. This game was not going to be decided by a couple of innings by JV. Offense is the key.

2nd best pitcher on the mound. Your 8th and 9th inning guys are ready to go.

We don't need Verlander
