With Luck and RG3 locks to go #1 and #2 respectively, I've been thinking about the Vikings at #3, and to be honest, I don't think they can go with Kalil.

Stafford/Johnson... Rodgers/Jennings.... Cutler/Marshall

Those guys aren't going anywhere for a while. While keeping Ponder upright has got to be a priority, I just don't see where you can't prioritize the best corner in the draft over the best tackle when you are looking at those odds.

Draft a round 2 LT and take the only hope you have of stopping some of that high octane pass attack.

with the DE's in the NFC if they dont go Kalil it would be Millenesque.

P.S.....Claiborne aint the best CB in the draft.

Yeah they need a CB that can match up against the best WR's in the division but I would think LT should be more important. Think about the pass rushers they have to go against in the division. And ponder has had trouble in college and the pros with injuries. Although if AP isnt ready by the start of the season they are screwed regardless. With some of what they have been saying I almost think they may take Blackmon and although I think he is good I dont think he is #3 good.

even with the new rookie cap....Dareus got 20 million guaranteed last year at #3....rather invest that in my franchise LT then a CB still.

Talent wise, I would think Jenkins is head and shoulder above the rest of the CBs. If not for the issues he's had off the field, he'd probably be a top five pick in any year.

But, Claiborne is certainly the safest pick in the draft this season at that position. Very talented, and no characters issues to speak of.

And I agree that the pass rush is certainly an issue, but they can get a quality (not elite) LT in the 2nd round to protect Ponder. If it doesn't pan out perfectly, you move that guy to RT next season and go back to the draft for another LT.

You aren't getting a CB in the second round that really has a hope of stopping the air attacks in the Black and Blue.

still....Id rather give 20 million to a LT then a CB.....JMO especially with no cap movement for the next couple years at least thise teams drafting top 5 gotta hit on those picks and still be fiscally responsible.

I couldbt disagree more I think you may be able to get a good not great CB in the 2nd or 3rd but I happen to like Kalil. Right now the viking OL is a mess and in todays NFL you need to be able to score to win. The rest of the division is going to put up points no matter who your CB's are.

Leslie Frazier did say yesterday " LTs aren't game changers"......maybe he was fluffing for a trade down , maybe he was serious...we'll see in 2 days

I don't know much about college but if they grade out the same I think you gotta go with LT. Besides playing from behind, the closer to the ball the more of an impact you can have. I think Dion said it best about Peterson last year...you can always throw to the other side of the field.

I agree there Slick. Thats an average of 5M per year for the four year length of the deal. $5M on a LT isn't bad. $5M on a CB is a lot riskier when you consider the current price tag on even elite CBs in the league.

I just think a Mike Adams or a Zabrie Sanders will have success blocking for Ponder, whereas a Trumane Johnson or a Josh Robinson doesn't even slow down the pace of Rodgers to Jennings or Stafford to Megatron.

And don't get me wrong, I love Kalil as a prospect, and I think any other team in any other division takes him hands down and walks away grinning. Just not the Vikings with as bad as their secondary is, in the division they play in.

I'm buying the recent report that the Minnesota Vikings are indeed going to take CB Morris Claiborne at No. 3. -Al Fronczak

Fronczak is the #4 most accurate mocker over the past 5 years, and landed at 3 last year in terms of accuracy.

Frazier is a coach with a defensive mindset so it makes sense. I still think they are crazy for passing on Kalil. If they do take a CB that will throw the next few picks into a toss up. The Vikes are actively trying to trade the pick from what I read. We would have to make a Falcons type deal to move up and take Kalil. Would you guys do that?

Vikings gave up 49 sacks and lots of pressure. Take Kalil or Ponder suffers. Kalil keeps them set at Left Tackle for 12 years

Maybe he has a career ending injury after 3?

I hope they make the mistake of passing on him , would love to ass pound there QB numerous times in '12

They already lost Hutch in fa. Now I know his skills had started to slip but still. With a bad Ol and no AP to start the year. Ponder will need prayers and lost of them because people are just going to pin their ears back and drill him.
