17 turnovers in 1 half. why do we always play our worst basketball at Illinois?

I have to question the mental state of this team since Langford was declared done for the year. It’s as if they played up in his absence but are so deflated since the announcement.

Loyer needs to play more. Winston is just trying to do too much and needs help with the ball.

This is the Achilles heel of this team. Loyer is zero threat offensively. At least Tum Tum could facilitate a bit and was quick. Loyer is 5?5? and has shown no ability to get a shot off or motor up the court.

Besides that tournament loss that will remain unnamed.....worst loss I have seen Izzo take.

We just got beat nearly start to finish by a BAD basketball team. They out played, out hustled and out coached us.

Embarrassing.

I won?t go that far, there have been some dreadful losses if you think about it a bit. If I?m a voter in the top 25 I may rank MSU about 20 next week. This isn?t a top 15 team whatsoever right now.

I watched Illinois play a few times this year.....I remember thinking how terrible they were.....how piss poor their sets were....etc.

They just punked us.

I don?t remember a loss to a worse team.

I disagree with all of that. He?s played jittery at times, but seemed to be playing more comfortable a couple games ago. He?s the only player aside from Winston that can dribble with his head up. That alone should get him minutes

I’ll give him credit in that he protects the ball which I like and I suppose won’t make mistakes, but he also hasn’t shown me a single thing from a scoring, driving, distributing standpoint that gives me any hope. Also I think Mcquaid is a serviceable PG for short stints

I do find it funny the same dopes in the media will pick this team to win the NC. You will never win a NC in 2019 when you turn the ball over 15+ a game with regularity. The window of opportunity is sealed shut until that ends.

Never saw a team everyone thought was a contender completely collapse like this. And they don?t even look like a decent or good team playing bad, they just look like a bad team that is very limited athletically. Wow. Season headed south in a hurry.

No need to pick this apart, Its right on. Once Jackson left if you said our record would be what it is even after the Illinois loss I would have been happy. "whatever" virus has set in for me.

Teams go through some valleys at times during a season, especially during rough patches during the conference season. This team had been such a well-oiled machine before last week even with Langford out. Hard to say if this is just a rough patch or if the team was overachieving and peaked too early and is some real trouble now.

They still have played 2 more road games than home games and we know road losses can happen, even to not very good teams. They have a chance to get well at home. If that doesn't happen, like it didn't happen vs IU, then obviously it would signal that the team's in trouble.

well oiled machine against the bottom of conference. Up until the losing streak, the only teams they beat with winning records in conference were Purdue and Iowa. They haven't faced a very tough schedule and now they have to play uofm twice and at Indiana. At least they have a couple weeks and 4 more games to sort this out before then.

Maryland too in early December

Michigan has 2 wins against teams with winning records and one of those was a 2 point win at the buzzer at home vs Minnesota.

I would still call roads wins vs OSU, who has a losing record right now but will still probably get into the tournament and Nebraska before Copeland got injured as good wins. Also they beat Iowa twice. So that's 4 wins vs teams with winning records all of which were blowouts, and 2 other decent wins. So I do not think their play prior to last week was merely a product of an easy schedule.

you're right, I overlooked Maryland - so that's 3 teams with winning records in conference. And yes, they beat Iowa twice, but Iowa has one win vs. the top half of the conference beating uofm at home.

We have yet to play 2 of the top 5 teams (uofm and wisc) and so far among those, only played Purdue 2x and we split with them. Of the 8 games left, only 2 are from the bottom 1/3 of the conference. We have to play uofm 2x and wisco. So at a minimum, no matter how hard or easy you think the schedule has been, it's definitely going to be tougher going forward.

I don't think uofm is unbeatable by any stretch but they haven't lost to any shitty teams like we have. We really shot ourselves in the foot losing to IU and Ill and no longer control our own destiny. If we win out we'll eliminate uofm and wisco but still need Purdue to drop one just for a piece of the conference title.
