Anybody else here think we can actually beat wisconsin this weekend? Not that we WILL beat them, but I think we can. They're more of a traditional running team that throws every now and then to keep defenses honest, as opposed to run/pass or read option team that clearly gave our defense trouble last week. And their qb probably doesn't handle pressure like Fields. Being kinda or more one-dimensional I think makes it easier for our defense. Taylor is a legit TB who we probably don't shut down completely but unlike osu, he doesn't have fields and 4 receivers with size and NFL speed so hopefully we don't get gashed for 300yds plus rushing.

Anyway, I'm still skeptical but I'm also always skeptical of wisco and B1G West teams in general (fullly admit I'm a wisco hater - can't stand alvarez or bo ryan and when bielema blew the most winnable Rose Bowl in years, costing me money, there's no shot at redemption for that school in my mind). I think we can keep this one close w/o playing a perfect game and if we can figure out how to come away with points in the red zone instead of 3 straight holding calls or shanking FGs, we may be able to regain a little respect.

I think MSU will beat WI. It needs to, IMO, scheme against Taylor and Taylor primarily. They have few other assets that will beat a team, and it has not seen MSUs defense this season.

Wisconsin is not as one-dimensional as people think. Coan made some huge throws against us, into coverage, that they couldn't make last year.

I don't think MSU's defense is good enough to beat Wisconsin on their own... so it comes down to whether or not their offense can sustain multiple drives, against a very good Wisconsin defense, on the road. Both to give their defense a rest and keep Wisconsin's offense off the field.

Wisconsin has the top Pass Efficiency defense in the country... #1. and #2 in rush defense.

State is 40th & 22nd respectively. They've even better at defense than MSU. and their offense is really good. MSU's offense is more or less garbage (like ours).

The outcome here shouldn't be much of a surprise, unless I'm missing something.

Maybe the wildcat will catch the Badgers by surprise. I don't know if they've seen it yet.

Puffed up stats against a weak schedule, and a the most inept performance by a Michigan team since the Army game.

SOS is the only factor in State's favor.

I don't think Wisconsin will beat them as badly as they beat us. it'll be 24-13 or something, but a lot of offensive futility from MSU will make it seem worse than that. MSU has a better DL than we do.

I was expecting a line of 17 points. It's only 10.5 which is very surprising to me.

If the game was in EL I would give MSU a chance. On the road...I think they lose by at least 2 TDs

you're not the only one surprised by it - I think it opened more than a point lower. I don't recall exactly but I think I saw somewhere b/w 8 and 9.5.

I agree with this for the most part - weak schedule but still, I think their run game is legit. If we can put them in 3rd and long and get pressure on Coan, he's not going to make the throws he made against uofm.

As I said in the OP, I don't think they're completely one-dimensional but they run a completely different kind of offense. Matchups matter - obviously athletically this is a better matchup for us than osu was but I think their offensive style is also a better matchup. Coan is not a bad qb but he's not a read option threat and to my knowledge the run/pass option isn't part of their game either.

I don't think they've faced any good offenses so I'm not convinced their D is great. Not sure we're the offense to prove that one way or the other, but when you compare common opponents, granted there's only one (NW - road for us, home for them) so for whatever it's worth, we actually beat the mildcats better than they did. Until I see otherwise I'm unconvinced that their d is really good.

Just heard a amazing stat on the Radio. Mark has a great record straight up after a double digit loss. I think I heard like 10-1 or 10-2 or something close to around there.

anything is possible... and Wisconsin did play pretty lousy at home against Northwestern, who State manhandled.

but how many of those wins were against a team like Wisconsin on the road?

statistically, you have a better run D than us, but a worse pass D. so I'm not sure about that.

Last year at #8 Penn St. But I'm not sure what exactly the stat was that Bob heard. We lost a ton of double digit games in that 3-9 year. I think like 4 in a row

So maybe it was 13-3 or 10-4. Or whatever it was I swear they said it on the radio that after double digit losses Mark has a really good record. But your right not the 3-9 and last years team so who knows what I heard. It was during the picks on 96.1 fm.

staistics can be misleading like when someone uses Heyaward's freshman year to say he wasnt a good tailback. we have to get pressure and I'd say we are better at that than mich this year. if coan gets all day in 3rd and long it could be tough but wisco doesnt have 4 wideouts w/ nfl speed and coan is nothing like Fields.

No kidding, the guy should've just said he wasn't good in any of his years. Oh wait.....

Gonna take a complete game to win. Defense is gonna have to get off the field on 3rd down to prevent gassing. Starters have talent, but seem to tire from lack of quality depth on d. Offense needs to finish drives. No dumb penalties, drops or missing wide open td throws.

I think if we play a close to clean game we'll be in it at the end. Just hopefully it doesn't come down to a kick.

how many carries did he have as a freshman? THREE in 12 games but yeah, thats the better indicator than his sophomore season, statistically.
