I Like Denard as much as any Michigan fan, but he defined the expression "a wing and a prayer" in that Sugar Bowl game. If Jr. Didn't make circus catches it would have been all bad. I expect more from Denard at this stage of his career.

If You were going to put together an "All time" UM team, would Denard be on the team? He would be on mine. Not at QB obviously, he would be at SR or RB.

Maybe that for another thread.

Exactly. I dont see how some people argue that his passing game has gotten a lot better. When he plays a weak defense he looks good. The tougher defenses shut him down. He still has time for development, but you would think by now if it hasn't happened will it ever.

I am worried about his passing in a few games next year. Mainly Bama and MSU. I know he will work on it this off season and I hope he shows improvement. I will never try and argue that Denard can win a passing contest because he just isnt good enough. But with time I do believe he can get better just how much better I dont know. But the kid is special as an athlete.

He is a damn good athlete. His coaches need to figure out different schemes in the games where he CANT run all over, and has trouble throwing the ball. There must be some way to use him to beat or at least challenge those defenses.

How is the world did Clemson beat Va. TEch twice and handily? They got rolled in a record breaking way last night by an average WV team. Ugly for the ACC.

Match ups. Va tech is probably better at stopping running teams (michigan) than a passing a team like clemson.

And clemson is better at stopping running teams (va tech) but not a passing team. Which is why geno could tear up.

Plus its clemson, they also lost to nc state like 31 17.

so Nebraska and Ohio had a weak defense this season? OK. Strange, because I thought that MSU O was super duper. How did that super duper O do against these 2 teams?

I like Denard, he's a likeable guy. I either think he is very stupid or he doesn't listen very well. He keeps throwing off his back foot(basically throwing to everyone on the field) and he rarely steps up in the pocket. I know the coaches have to be getting on him about it. I mean he looked great in the Ohio game, but what the fuck happened, for him to regress, when he should have been a standout on Tuesday?

He loses his mind when he's under pressure and starts making bad reads or just throws it up for grabs. You can see on several plays someone else is open, but the pressure forced Denard to throw it quickly to a covered WR. I don't know how they kept the pressure away in the OH or the Neb game, but either the line needs to protect better (molk out?) or they need to roll the pocket.

I agree.

VT brought it and Molk being out/slowed didn't help. VT's pass rush looked to me to be about as good as State's, if not better, maybe the best we faced all season.

But hey, no need to believe me, I just watched the games...

Not saying Denard is a great passing QB, just that it was VT that made him look worse.

Well, that and I thought bringing Odoms into motion every single play just served to confuse Denard more. He just seemed to be getting in the way. That new little wrinkle needs to go.

Agreed. It just goes to show how good of a coaching staff we currently have.

Special teams coaches should get raises. How unbelievable were they?

Well, punting sucked and the return game wasn't much, but the field goal kicking was great - which I believe Hoke is in charge of.

Its that thing you always like to dodge, you know, the homefield advantage thing thatonly matters when it benefits your arguements.

Wow, the Sugar Bowl was the 2nd lowest rated BCS Bowl of All Time. Down big from 2011 and 2010 when OSU played Arkansas and Florida played Cincinnati. A 6.2 rating. 12,000 unsold tickets too. Guess Va.Tech isn't a draw.

We also had some timely turnovers and I think none all season on our side.

homefield advantage is one thing... but a whopping 23 points total in those three games (ohio, nebraskie, ND) is another.

I mean... come on. Even in our two worst road games, (Iowa & MSU), we put up at least 14.

dingus.

so the nebraska and Ohio defense is only good at home?

i wasn't even really ripping on MSU, so much as saying that Nebraska and Ohio had good defenses. Denard did well against Nebraska and Ohio, both teams had good defenses, home or away.

The Tuesday game day probably hurt ratings. And GA fans must have been disappointed by playing in the Outback, as indicated by the two-point drop in ratings from the year before (5.0 from 7.0) and the 15,000 empty seats.

Georgia is not a very populous country, its people are poor, and it's extremely remote from South Florida, so I don't think it was ever very likely to be a well-attended game.
