Waiver wire targets?

I'm mostly in agreement with the exception of wanting the biggest upgrade we can get. If it's an ace like Lee, great. If it's a lefty DH like Big Papi, great. Doesn't really matter to me where we end up upgrading since we've got room to do so everywhere. If it makes us better and keeps them off the teams we're competing against, I'm all for it.

The problem with this is like I said before, we have no shot of landing Cliff Lee.

The Phills would want Castellanos just for starters...

Just because they want him doesn't mean we have to give him up. If we put in a claim and no one else does, the Phillies can only negotiate with us. If they don't like what we are offering, they can keep Lee the rest of the year. The point is that blocking Lee from other contenders is a pretty good strategy in itself. If Philly breaks down and takes lesser prospects (greater focus on cutting payroll) all the better, but not necessary.
