Was letting E. Wright walk a mistake?

I just find it interesting that this year, the Lions have yet to intercept a pass. Last year thru 4 games the Lions were close to tops in the league with 7 ints at this point. If they had no plans of drafting a cb early to replace him, why didnt they resign him? Didnt have the money, or was he asking too much? At this point it seems he was more valuable than most gave him credit for. And if I remember correctly, the coaches, and players were pretty excited about signing him last year. If Wright wasnt the worst offseason transaction(or lack thereof), then what was?

Nm, just read an article stating that the Lions didnt have enough cap space to sign him before the Bucs signed him.

lions don't have money...expected free agents next year are....delmas, avril, durant, levy, houston, corey williams, sammie lee hill..lots of money to put into young players..may have to cut kvb and or burleson next year to keep some younger talent...

Biggest reason we dont cause turnovers is because Gunther does nothing to cause pressure on the qb. It all on him...

Shouldn't be too bad, Houston will be the toughest to sign. SLH and delmas will get bigger bumps in pay but still shouldn't break the bank.

No consistent pass rush is a big reason the Lions don't have more ints plus quicker shorter throws by opposing teams. Less QB hits and hurries lead to less picks and being behind leads to less throws unless you are Tony Romo/Jason Garrett. Wright and Alphonso Smith are gamblers compared to Bentley and Lacey, but Houston and Spievey had picks last year too, Houston earned his, Spievey were gifted them by the Dline.

They better pick Vick and Cutler off(who are both int prone this year) if they want a chance to steal those games on the road. Cutler wasn't picked by the Lions last year though.

Plus as mentioned the cap space, impossible to sign Wright. Wright is playing poorly in Tampa as well.

I hope they just resign delmas, levy, Houston and slh and let the rest walk.

SF only rushes 4 and they don't seem to have a problem. Its not on Gunther or Schwartz. Some teams don't blitz at all and do well. We have a shitty secondary, nothing more.

we wouldnt even be discussing Wright if we had any resemblance of a special team unit

IMO the worst offseason move was with avril. could have let him go, re-sign Wright, and draft a DE in R2. avril hasn't done a damn thing to justify his salary.

Avril isnt aldon smith. Kvb isnt their all pro de. sf has 2 of the best cover lbs in the game along with Goldston (sp) who can erase any mistakes their cbs make. You really cant compare sfs def to ours in any wayy....they are better at every single position except maybe 1 of the dt spots (which is also debatable).

That's not the point. Coaches usually just don't change what they've done from past years. And it was working in 2010, why not now? I'm not going to speculate because it could be many reasons, like the opp. QB getting rid of it quicker.

Nonetheless, if anyone says it was a mistake not resigning Wright is crazy. He was terrible.

The deal is we have scrubs playing in our secondary. Also keeping another scrub back there wouldnt have helped. The defense hasnt been terrible with decent special teams and the offense not playing like a bunch of bums and we are undefeated not 1-3. Stafford has sucked the play calling has sucked. The special teams has been atrocious and the defense has been better than I would have thought

I agree the secondary sucks and Wright blows....wasnt trying to argue that. But moreso that turnovers come from pressure and we don't get any. They had issues getting consistent pressure toward the end of last year too. We need a solid de and Gunther needs to get his head out of his ass.

Maybe. But some of these QB, esp. the Titans throwing too quick. Unless you get instant pressure..They don't blitz, never have why start now. And KVB is slowing down, Fairley is too inconsistent.

Might not be valid reasons but it is what it is..

And finally, ST don't fold we have 3 wins and less talk about bad play.

To me, Fairley has been more of a non-factor not inconsistent. I just remember watching him play against the Saints last year, and being excited thinking this is what we are going to see game in and game out once he is completely healthy.
