I guess we are trading up in the draft. Sammy "Optimus Prime" Watkins.

might have to trade up to 3 to get him....

I'm torn.

1. I would LOVE to have Watkins wear the Honolulu Blue. I know what he would do for this offense.

2. The cost of getting the chance to get him will undoubtedly be high. Not sure any one player is worth it. His 77% catch rate within 10 yards frightens me. Can he run a route?
I hope we don't give up too much to grab a WR who has a lot to prove at the next level.

3. I also will NOT be purchasing his jersey. I stopped buying jerseys after I realized the last two I bought were Joey Harrington and Charles Rogers. And before that Germaine Crowell.

Lol... Pretty bad choices for jersey's. Johnson, Warford, and Suh are safe choices but don't buy any, we don't need you jinxing any more players ;)

If they would have to trade up to 3 they would have to trade their first 3 picks to get up there.

it could come down to this:

S. Watkins for

1) Gilbert, 2) Jordan Mathews and 3) S Terrence Brooks

You have worse luck than I do, by comparison my Delmas and LeShoure don't look so bad.

if you are guaranteeing me we get those 3 guys than I would say thatd be a horrible trade. Problem is I think gilbert combined himself into a top 8 pick. I think Jordan Matthews is going to go late round 1. And Terrence brooks is rising in not a very deep safety class. Soooo...would I trade those 3 for Watkins....no way. But theres no way in hell I think we get 3 players of that caliber in this draft....that's a dream draft at its finest....and I have to admit its my dream draft as well.

Soooo a more likely scenario is would you trade Watkins for :

1 CJ mosely LB
2 Paul Richardson WR
3 Ahmad Brooks S

...and my answer would be yes. But I don't think we have to give up quite that much to move up 7 spot. maybe 1 3 and a 2 next year?

Hey how many more years does Tulloch have on his deal?

I just went directly to Walter Football's mock draft...those were the 3 picks they had for the Lions. As far as the trade...the points for the Lions top 3 picks in this years draft don't even add up to the #3 overall pick. I don't think the the Bills would trade this year's #3 for the Lion's #10 and third round and next year's 2nd round pick. When you trade a future pick they are usually higher by a round. They might take this years 1st and 2nd and next year's 2nd.

As far as your three guys...I like Mosely. Richardson is projected to go late in round 2 so I think there will be better value early in the second.

Bottom line is I would rather have three players vs. trading up for Watkins.

Time to pull out the draft chart

#3 is worth 2200

#10 is worth 1300
#45 is worth 450
#76 is worth 210
Somewhere early in the 4th around 80
Last 2 picks worth around 30

Roughly 2070 total

I'm guessing they'd probably want #10, #45 and a 2nd next year, minimum

Hate to say it grandy, but no one is using that chart any more. The rookie cap has given a lot more flexibility to teams in moving around.

Last year the third overall pick was traded for the #12 overall and the #42 (second rounder) overall.

For the #10 overall and a third, you could probably move up to #2 and take him, and if not, you could definitely move up to #2, because the Rams want to trade out of that spot, even if it's for less value.

That trade would be disasterous for Detroit. That's 3 starters for a #2 WR.

Atlanta is the perfect example of what can go wrong with this scenario and they were in better shape than Detroit when they made the deal for Julio Jones.

If memory serves correct they gave up 5 picks to move up and grab him. This year the lack of depth caught up to them.

That's probably what Oakland did. Reading a few articles now and a few writers think Miami got the much better end of the deal because it was a "buyer's market".

The St. Louis trade last year was #16, #46, #78, #222 to Buffalo for #8, #71...which is roughly even according to the chart.

Regardless, I still feel uneasy with the Lions giving up potential starters in a trade.

Not saying I am okay with giving up starters, but it's been rumored that St. Louis wants out of the #2 spot so badly, they would be willing to take an early first and a third, or a mid to late first and a second for that pick.

Truthfully I think a lot of writers felt Miami robbed Oakland in that deal because they weren't used to seeing trades go down quite like that. But the GMs who commented all seemed to feel that was about right with the new rookie cap in place.

It used to be much harder to move those picks because that #3 guy was going to get 35+ million, not less than 20. That means you are moving up to take a franchise type QB or LT out of desperation... and people want more to trade with you.

Now, you could reasonably take a CB at #1 overall. $22M over 4 years is not out of whack for a CB, especially in this market, so it's not such a desperation move, and the buyers have more power to negotiate.

well to be fair...Julio jones going down is a major reason their offense wasn't up to par. So in your ATL example they lost 5 picks AND julio jones.
