Whaaaaa?

I do not think that link goes where you think it goes.

It didn't say what his tender was and 5 knee surgeries, are you kidding me..

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/wr

Highest advanced stats rating of any receive last year. Currently making less than 500k. Injury obviously an issue but the guy had 668 yards and 7 TDs on 62 total targets, not catches, targets. Broyles looks good based on these stats as well.

I think I don't want another receiver in the draft.

they placed an original draft tender and he was undrafted....therefor SD would get no compensation. Mayhew would probably throw them a 4th just for shits n giggles.

What's the point of throwing any tender at all then?

Right to match. An original round tender means that if someone signs him, the team has the right to match the offer or receive that draft pick as compensation.

If someone else signs him to a sweetheart offer, the Bolts can match it and keep him, but there is no minimum they must pay because it's an original round tender.

All this gives them is the right to match. So another team will look to add a poison pill to prevent the match, like a $20m bonus if he plays more than 4 games in San Diego County this season or something that will only trigger if he's a Charger.

I remeber when the Seahawks did that to the Vikings to steal Burleson. But I think the Vikings did it first to steal Hutchinson. Poison pills. I wouldn't do it for Alexander

Poison pills are usually pretty frowned upon by everyone. It's seen by other GM's as a bad thing.

...except in the case of original round tenders for undrafted players. Then it's seen as okay. The thought process there is "if you really wanted the guy, you should have tendered him higher, and we're not going to be your negotiator for you."

A few years back, before the poison pill became more common, teams would use an original round tender on players they wanted to retain when they had higher priorities. GMs would focus on their top free agents, and then just match whatever the guy got... forcing another team to do his negotiating for him.

I'd always include a poison pill in a case like Alexander's if you want to sign him. You get a cap friendly deal and you make sure the original team can't screw it up for you with the simple nod of the head and a flick of the pen.

im on the side of the poison pill and agree ....if you wanted the guy you negotiate for him. not a good start for the new gm out here in san diego. hes done next to nothing in fa, didn't resign Vasquez for whatever reason, and now is doing this to the only guy that played well for them last year. dumb...
