What are Gun Owners Afraid of?

I'm not trolling, I'm being serious. And I used to target shoot in TC when I was younger and understand the "fun" of shooting, the difficulty and accuracy and that basic sort of experience that people like.

But really -- there is always this outcry and the token "from my cold dead hands" Charlton Heston BS when the notion of limiting guns is brought up. And again, there are rifles for hunting and for game and in the case of property protection and there are assault rifles that serve no purpose whatsoever but to kill and kill quickly.

I'm Libertarian and do not believe the government should have a say in my personal life but I don't think stockpiling ammunitions is the way an intelligent and thoughtful society should exist.

The didn't "need" the shotguns either. They could have defended everything with bean bag guns right? The fact remains that in that situation the assault rifles were the best tool for the situation, even if people used other tools. If there was some sort of mob attack on the building I'd certainly want an assault rifle over a shotgun. Assuming the other side is armed with something as well, you'd want the weapon designed for military action.

Why don't you go tell that to the M&B in the other thread that thinks what gun you're using doesn't matter?

They did defend them with assault rifles, so I'm not sure what your point is? I never said they were exclusively defended by people with assault rifles.

The presence of the very few assault weapons was irrelevent to the defense of the shops, so no, they actually didn't defend them with assault weapons; they effectively defended the stores with the quantity of the other weapons.

Just because there may be have been an assault weapon present amongst all the other weapons doesn't mean it was that the assault weapon that effectively defended the store.

You do understand that these "Assault rifles" you speak of are major competition guns rights?

I have never held a gun that I was afraid was going to turn on me. The person behind the trigger is what I am concerned about. If everyone judges a book by its looks, no fat girl would ever get married. Guns shouldnt be any different.

That's why I said against an angry mob who's likely armed. I specifically addressed that point because I knew it would be brought up. This just proves you weren't really understanding my point in the last thread since I addressed it in both. In the LA riots you had violent, armed, people wondering the streets - a far cry from unarmed 8 year olds. The advantage an assault rifle gives you is very present in a war-type situation and non-existent when shooting unarmed 8 year olds and teachers.

Assault rifles are still expensive and will always be less present than hanguns and shotguns; which are probably 1/5 or less of the average price of an assault rifle (even back then).

I've got an m1, a ruger mini 14 (new) :), remington 12 and 20s, a mauser 98k, a 700 22-250 (just traded for a couple months ago) :), a 1911, and 3 22s and looking to add more.

Right. I'm the one that doesn't understand.

You have a different threshold for using the word "proves".

Well, I wanted to buy an AR to shoot because the ammo is cheaper but that looks like that's not going to be something I can buy very easily in the future.

I thought about getting a stripped AR lower and just building onto it later but I can't even find a place around here that sells stripped lowers.

Right.

And Korean shop owners in LA are generally poor.

Which is why for all practical purposes no Korean shop owner had one while defending their stores during the riots.

Which is why the wing nuts had to just go ahead, and make the shit up.

Except they had an uzi sitting on top of the building, the most strategic place to be....odd that they didn't have a pistol guy up there....

While sarcastic, that is true. You don't understand. The advantages of a sports car don't matter if you aren't racing another car.

You don't think time was a factor and I disagree; it's not that I don't understand what you're saying.

Not sure if you're serious or not but buy yourself a .223 mini 14 and buy a tactical stock for it. if thats too expensive and you just want something fun to shoot and aren't going to hunt with buy a ruger 10-22. They're only a .22 but you can customize them more than any semi auto rifle out there. You can make your own ar cheaper than buying one.

Ok, then you disagree but my comment from before is right in line with what I'm saying now and despite what you tried to imply, isn't hypocritical.

Right.

As each potential looter walked by, pondering the idea of looting the place, each had the same following thoughts:

"I'm pretty sure I can handle the 30 armed fuckers in the parking lot; but I'm not so sure about that fucker up there on the roof with that Uzi."

I'd rather take on 30 armed "fuckers" than 30 armed "fuckers" plus 1 armed "fucker" with an uzi.

Totally serious, but my wife won't let me dump $800 into a gun all at once. So I figure if I got the $150 lower then I could just add on here and there until I was able to buy the whole thing. A 10/22 is an option but I thought it might be cooler to build something from the ground up in an AR....of course, I still have yet to find a place around Ann Arbor that openly sells lowers. There's a place that just opened on Jackson Road (ann arbor arms) or something like that, they sell the full thing but I'd probably have to order a lower from them and pay them for the FFL transfer.

"Major competition guns" sounds like something the NRA made up to explain the exponential increase in AR ownership and usage. And I get it -- it's not the "gun" but the shooter. But that's no different than anything else. My car is a deadly weapon if I drive poorly or out of control and nobody is talking about banning cars.

I don't get the analogy to fat girls, though.

I deleted the post because I forgot to quote you. I was going to quote you and then repost it, but I see you could tell that it was for you.

I am pretty sure that the potential looters passed on looting the place when they saw the 30 armed fuckers on the ground. I doubt that they even noticed that uzi fucker on the roof.
