When do we make changes?

Obviously this team just isn't working right now, when does DD decide to add new faces to the clubhouse? If so who do you think it will be? Personally I would love to get a player like Jon Lucroy or make a blockbuster trade for Matt Garza and Starlin Castro by sending Jacob Turner, Rick Porcello, Jhonny Peralta, and Rob Brantly.

To add on to the big trade I mentioned, there will be more players of course, that is just the base of what I would send.

Just saying there's not a whole lot of movement in May. Teams still going through the process of whether they will compete or not.

I think this team can still turn it around, but the season is starting to slip away, we're playing terrible baseball and 1 or 2 new players aren't going to improve our fundamentals. We have enough talent to win the World Series, we just aren't executing and playing good ball. I don't think we need an influx of talent by a big trade, but we might need a shakeup and to add some speed and defense through a mid level trade.

Iltch is all in on this season though so nothing would surprise me.

You look at teams like Boston, Philly, and Arizona - they have it just as bad as us. Maybe worse because they're in better division. A silver lining?

Adding Castro would add a solid defender with good speed. He also makes good contact almost every at bat. Garza would help make the rotation tops in baseball with the 1-2-3 of Verlander, Fister, and Garza along with Scherzer and Smyly. Peralta just doesn't seem comfortable right now, but his value is still pretty high.

I wish DD would snatch Oswalt out from under Texas' nose. That team already has enough pitching.

And unfortunately he probably won't play so far from home.

Yeah what the heck is wrong with JP... He seems so disinterested. I Like adding Castro and Garza but man that is a steep price.. i still think Alex has not recovered from his late season injuries from last year... His swing's seem so weak... All arms... Brantly has a ton of value right now.. Wish we could see him in Detroit.. I think we have to do something to shake up the club... it would be fun to hear what is being said in Mr I's office. I wonder what he and his staff are saying... He must be pissed...

In hope Roy gets shelled every time out..

Pitcher currently pitching against actual batters >>> Pitcher just throwing bullpen sessions.

It is, but you have to pay a lot to get two really good players. As for Avila, I think he'll be fine, just will take him a little bit to get back to normal. He'll probably need a little more rest these next couple weeks.

Oh and can we shift up the lineup? Leyland refuses to change anything and it's infuriating. I wish he was a little more like Joe Madden or Don Mattingly and have a new lineup just about every night.

Sometimes you just need new blood and I mean coaches. Last time I mentioned this I got a whole bunch of "will we better with someone other than Leyland" -- and for the record I think Leyland is a fine Manager but sometimes change needs to happen.

And a new pitching coach last season so why not a new hitting coach, make them accountable. But our hitting coach is like a brother to JL so I doubt that happens.

If we make a coaching change I hope it's Leyland being replaced by Ryne Sandburg.

I honestly don't see a new manager making much of a difference this season. If you want to make a change with the future in mind, go ahead. But IMO firing the manager 1/3 of the way through the season is pretty much throwing up the white flag.

1. You don't know how many players would be pissed off about the move, which could effect their play

2. Is the replacement going to be any better? Unless we get an experienced manager, it's nearly impossible to say for sure

3. Are the players even going to respond to the replacement? This can be tied back into #1.

Right now it just seems that they lack timely hitting and their lack of talent depth is starting to show. A new manager isn't going to make Ryan Raburn/Danny Worth/Don Kelly into all-stars, a new manager isn't going to make Peralta better than worthless, a new manager isn't going to solidify the bullpen.

Replacing a manager is an awfully big gamble, and without looking into the statistics, I'd say it probably doesn't work out far more than it does (in regards to the current season in which they're replaced).

The best thing to do at this point is to wait it out til the end of the season, if they turn it around, all is good, if they don't, start firing people.

Frankly I'm more concerned about DD than I am about Leyland, based simply on the current roster and farm system.

Our starters have been better than Texas'.

Okay, something you have to understand about the Brantly situation.

He's playing AA right now, and facing AA pitching.

Yes, he has nice line numbers, but look at 2011 when he was moved up from W. Michigan(A), to Lakeland (A+), he went from hitting .303 to .219, and that's a much smaller adjustment to pitching than going from Erie to Detroit.

I agree, that he, like Castellanos has a future with the Tigers, but I think it's a season and a half off at minimum, these guys cannot be rushed, they are not Harper, or Heyward.

But Alex is a concern if he has a lingering issue and is not telling anyone about it.
