Why are you a Lions fan?

I was listening to the radio today and the subject was "Why are you a Cubs fan?". That conversation made me ponder my own obsession with a historically bad franchise.

I was born in Pontiac so I have the "root for the home team" thing going. The first time I went to a game was in 1990, and I was ten years old. I still remember the first time I saw Barry Sanders run. All the men in my family are Lions fans, so it's kind of tradition. At the end of the day its about friends and family for me. If we weren't bitching about the Lions, we might not have anything to talk about.

Born In Hastings in 1961... Always grew up a all Detroit and Wolverine fan and never changed... I lived I Vegas from 1987-2004 and rooted for some SD teams but not that hard.. Once a sucker always a sucker when it comes to the Lions... One day we will win.
I hope...

Born and raised in Detroit. Went to Holy Redeemer until we moved to the suburbs when I was in 4th grade. Have loved the Lions ever since I can remember. Some of my earliest and favorite memories are of watching games with my dad and grandpa after church on Sundays.

Born and raised in Livonia, lived in the city and work for the city. Grew up going to the Thanksgiving day game annually since i was 4 and suffered since.

Because I love strawberries and playing the piano.

And that's probably as good a reason as any. It's kind of hard to put a logical reason behind the passion.

I am a Lions fan because I always have been. I don't have a better reason than that.

Because I grew up in the Detroit area.

I can't understand people who grow up near a city with professional teams but don't root for their home team(s) (unless it's through family, then I understand it).

I didn't. I should be a Steeler or Eagles fan. Barry Sanders and Sunday Ticket my friend. If I didn't have Sunday Ticket I probably would have been.

same thing for me... except for the grandpa and church things

born and raised in East Lansing, moved to Tucson, AZ after high school, and then to Paradise (aka Orange County, CA). i've been a fan since i can remember (as well as the Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings and MSU)

Born and raised in Southern California. My dad is a huge Michigan University fan. Grew up going to games. As I got older just started following all Detroit Teams.

Barry Sanders was enough to make you choose one of the shittiest organizations in the history of sports over the Pennsylvania teams?

Like I said, I just don't understand it.

I know someone they like the Wings, the Bears, NY Knicks and some odd hockey team. I don't understand it either..

That explains a lot.

I didn't endure the 60s-80s. Born in 83. 90s was solid but with no QB so they couldn't win more than just sneaking in the wildcard in a tough division. Early 90s was good though. Millen era was terrible but I stuck through it and still watched every game multiple times. 2008 season I watched twice by the way.

Now they have alot of talent IMO and many experts opinions too. Now they are the most frustrating because they should win more. We'll see if they can get over the hump with this new staff.
