Why I love Juwan already...

A few reasons, but the biggest is something that Beilein never did. He put his super talented, super inexperienced player (fresh off injury and playing his first career game) into a 3 game, 3 day tournament against teams that are rated much higher than we were. When he struggled, he didn't pull him. He left him out to get some experience that will pay off through the rest of the year.

He isn't afraid to play players that warm the bench in big situations or leave players in with foul trouble. That type of trust might lose us some games, but these young men aren't going to forget it.

When they start slowly, Juwan doesn't lose his shit and instead refocuses the team. Coach B did it quite well, too, but he had 4 decades of head coaching experience. Very impressive, so far.

He has so much excitement about his job. It's very contagious listening to him speak.

I have no doubts we will lose a few games and some of us will be angry, but if you see what he's doing, he's preparing the guys for the big spotlight.

During Juwan?s tenure, I have no doubt there will be losses.

given how much money is flowing around college sports now, it's almost quaint we got in trouble for what we did.

Ed Martin wouldn't have enough $$$ to get on the booster list at any SEC school, OSU, or a big time basketball program. Shoe money dwarfs the kinda $$$ Ed could generate running numbers games in an auto plant

Ed Martin didn't do a damn thing for Juwan. FBI found Juwan to be squeaky clean. That's why Juwan never had any of his individual awards vacated by the NCAA.

Juwan wound up in A2 in part because of the scandal at Illinois.

The Illini did not bother with an appeal likely because the public sentiment at this point in time completely sided with the NCAA.

I hate to say it, because I loved Coach Beilein, but his stuff had pretty much run it's course. Oh they did win 30 games last season. I know. He is still a very good coach, but it just started to feel like watching the same reruns over and over. I don't know if he had another championship game run in him. Throwing Poole to the corner and telling him to stand there and having Teske stand at the top of the 3 point line just didn't seem like great offense to me. Loved him while he was at MIchigan, but am very excited with the hiring of Juwan Howard and that was even before they did what they just did.

Love his enthusiasm and that he is just jumping in the deep end with the high end recruits.

Having a hard time being mad about Louisville. Not sure if it's fatigue or just a horrible shooting night. The game will be a big learning tool for the team. Not much good happened, but the defense looked good enough to win. Shots fall and we win that game.

This game weren?t really no thang.

I was optimistic but not especially confident.

Tough to beat a top tier team on their own court, we all know that.

Conference play starts Friday.

Didn't get to watch Louisville game, but sounded like we just shot horribly. Not terribly unexpected going on the road to play #1. Would have been pretty historic for a first year coach to beat three top ten teams within a week.

I was fond of JB too, but not as crazy about him as other fans. I do think Howard brings a "freshness" of sorts to the program that I like. Players seem to already like him a lot which is great.

from what I saw, end of the 1st half and most of the 2nd half, Livers shot poorly, and Brooks did little to nothing, not even shoot.

We did get it within 6, but went cold, and Louisville kept scoring.

I'm a little concerned about what this team can do to score if the shooting goes cold, & Teske/Simpson get into foul trouble and can't play. We have no inside or outside game then.

I got a letter from Juwan in the mail yesterday!





Seems the basketball team needs some money (along with Women's Lacrosse) in what they call the Champions Fund. I can't believe coach took the time to write me ...I wonder if he remembers that time I took his clothes out of the dryer before they were completely dry?

Their defense was stifling, so most of the credit goes to them, but even on wide open shots our guys were off. In the first half Simpson was so well covered that he couldn't move the ball off the dribble, so the team never got into a rhythm. In the second, he was able to make some headway and the gap closed, but they are a top team in the country and they fought back by hitting crucial shots. When the deficit was 10 late in the game, if even two three pointers in a row had dropped it would have given us momentum and put more pressure on them. It was a frustrating game to watch.
