only 52 arrests. not much of an "insurrection," "coup," or even "protest."

in actual protests, they round people up by the hundred and leave them sitting their zip tied for hours.

These people are idiots, but I feel bad for them too. They're pawns in this. Led to believe the election was stolen. You should be protesting and ready for civil disobedience that will get you arrested if you think that. Then the crowd you are in is just about escorted into the Capitol? (I saw a video where the police moved the barricades out of the way for the protesters.) I don't know how hard the book will be thrown at them, but in a generic, non-specific, hypothetical situation where you tell me people marched to the Capitol, broke in, and caused Congress to be evacuated, I would expect something more organized, more intent on destruction, and more like an anti-American terrorist group; I expect an assault that would deserve many years in prison - life for the leaders. These people mistakenly thought they were protecting our Democracy, not attacking it - they thought they were doing the opposite of what they did. As punishment is handed down, I hope it's done with a scalpel and not a blanket punishment. The leaders of this thing and the sheep are two different things, though hard to separate.

Maybe. But what if that crowd was 95% Trump supporting followers and 5% agitators, and the agitators are 1 part QAnon/Boogaloo, 1 part Neo-Nazi/Racists, and 1 part Antifa false flags? People won't come to any consensus on who is responsible or what narrative is correct. Heck, you could fake news the false flags using old pictures of Anitfa people out of context or you could photoshop QAnon tattoo into pictures, and just thinking about that possibility will give people a way to reject whatever news is reported they don't like.

Earlier today I was thinking about the opinions some had, that he never actually wanted to actually BE president, just run for it as a personal marketing thing.

He'll never shut up, as long as the cameras are on and there are rubes to contribute cash to his "TAKE BACK AMERICA" fund, or whatever he'll call it.

It's a weird version of doublethink. He tells a story about nefarious forces subverting the Constitution and stealing an election hoping to get people mad enough to send him money, but not mad enough to fight to take their country back.

I saw some of the post on Facebook. I even commented because Facebook put a link to an article under the post for the guy dressed like a viking and the 2 bearded guys saying they were Antifa. Article showed interviews of the viking and he is a Q supporter. Might have been some false flags in there but the majority were Trump supporters being pawns in his game.
