World Series 2011

This is Texas' second pennant. They lost the WS last year as we remember.

This is the Cards' 18th pennant. They have won 10 World Series (1926, 1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946, 1964, 1967, 1982, 2006).

They lost in 1928, 1930, 1943, 1968, 1985, 1987, and 2004.

Bold is series against the Tigers.

I think that the Cardinals will win the World Series, in 6-7 games, but then again maybe a giant sinkhole could open up underneath the rump-rangers' ballpark in Arlington TX, and swallow-up the entire shebang during Game 3.

i hope for turok's outcome, and share theo's sentiment overall. fuck em both.

Let me raise this comment. This is the second time in 5 years that LaRussa has gotten the Cardinals to the World Series with a team with a very mediocre record.

Many of the Leyland supporters on this board feel the manager doesn't make that much of difference in the outcomes of games. I think LaRussa proves Leyland supporters wrong IMO.

In 2006, the Cards got lucky...they played the Mets in the LCS and they are great choke artists and then the Tigers choked the WS away. This year, they benefitted from a Braves collapse and getting hot at the right time. They did beat the Phils and then exposed the Brewers. Hate to quote Billy Beane b/c he's overrated, but he's right when he says the postseason is a crapshoot.

You make it sound like World Series appearances are flukes, and that a championship isn't worth celebrating or meaningful. Once may be a fluke, but twice is managerial talent. Give LaRussa some credit.

The hell with either team, but esp. to the rump-rangers tonight.

Gonna be a Lone Star nation??

Well, shit...

Yippie Yi-Yo Ki-Yay!!

Motherfuckers!!!

The Cards won in 2006 b/c the Tigers and Mets choked. I'll give him some credit for making it, but they were also lucky. They got Philly in a best of 5 and then Milwaukee's defense played like it did all year which helped the Cards. In the grand scheme of things, managers win or lose a handful of games with their on-the-field moves.
