Worst responses to MLK, Jr. Day

True. But the broad, sweeping generalization of "Conservative racists" also captures the generalization about the South and while racism is racism is racism both sides of the aisle probably have some racist element but one in particular has a much clearer record of overt racism - for example the KKK and the racist Southern Politicians were/are almost exclusively Democrats.

The disconnect is when people use the generalization and apply it to the conservative platform. A bunch of toastchamp's favorite talking heads get all pissed when a conservative comes out for welfare reform or against racially discriminatory policies like Affirmative Action.

His side likes to downplay racist and sexist remarks of Dems (Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton, Joe Biden) while decrying conservative policies that aren't remotely racist as racist.

There is A LOT of racism in the Democratic party and while they used to push overtly racist policies, they now do it in a rather underhanded and sinister way by championing policies that perpetuate the cycle of poverty that disproportionately hurts minorities.

I think the creation of the "Conservative Racist" was just one step in the Echo Chamber process of creating a "them." It's easy to detract from someone who wants real reform that benefits everyone by reforming bloated and abused social programs with someone who tells you they want to save poor people by keeping them in a state of permanent dependence and poverty.

Racism is racism. The idea that some schlub in the ghetto is better off voting for Dem policies that will get him/her hooked on the State's largesse is a by-product of galvanizing against them racist Republicans.

Apologies Vic - not personal or directed at you in any way. It was well written (I don't agree w/ some of it) and with a few tweaks fit what I wanted to say quite nicely - I just couldn't resist.

Oh, here we go... glad you found a way to work your BS "Affirmative Action is the REAL racism here" theories into the thread about racists on MLK Day...

Didn't take any of it personally and didn't intend any of my post to be taken that way by you.

Take the "Hollywood Liberal Elitists" and boil it down to the indictment of being "elitist." This message carried by the Sarah Palin faction of the GOP says that being educated and well prepared makes you "elitist."

"Don't understand all this liberal mumbo jumbo about equality and affirmative action?! That's fine because THEY are elitist snobs and you're just a regular, every day 'Merican!

Don't like some Left Coast Liberal telling you that SuperSizing every meal is bad for you?! They think they know everything, stupid elitists!"

It's in that vein I find the concept offensive. Are there those with an agenda and the money to manufacture it? Sure. Are there Disney movies aimed at kids that have a message about "global warming" or "equality" or same sex partnerships? Yes. Does HBO sometimes put on programming that seems aligned with a larger, progressive agenda based on leniency towards drugs, sex, porn, "alternative lifestyles" and violence? Yes.

But it cuts both ways.

The sappy, overdone "Proud to be an American" sentiment is an easy way out of facing more complex issues at times.

Those of us with the gumption to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps are kind of elitist too. Whole different flavor of elitism.

The Elitist and Best!!

And hell yeah, we had government cheese when I was a kid and I apologize to no one for being so fucking awesome today, because of my hard work.

Probably the original lyrics right there.

It's here that I post with ease,
About eating government cheese,

Didn't have much back then,
But now I'm Rollin' in my Benz,
So ....

All you St-haters, bucks and all the rest,
Can suck the big dong ...

The Leaders and Best!!!

Sounds like something by Creed.

Not familiar - is creed something all the kids are listening to these day? Is it as annoying as nickelback?

EDIT: a quick google search reveals I am familiar w/ some of their music but thought it was more nickelback. These guys sold 40mm albums in the 90s - how did I not know they were not nickelback and were actually a different shitty band.

If you really want to appeal to your wealthy clients in LA and PHX, make sure to deride any kids/families on government cheese today as lousy takers, and work to deny them those benefits.

That refusal to put yourself in other people's shoes and make personal sacrifices (no matter how small) to ensure society functions on a more level playing field is quintessential Reagan- and Post-Reagan-GOP.
