Wow, we're really trying to start a war with Iran now

Civil disagreement seems to be a challenge for some here. Too, bad, because that severely impinges on the possibility of learning from the other. Admittedly, I've been guilty of un-civil-ness here, but it's such an energy drain and in no way charitable. Witnessing it also is enervating. My .02.

Too many citizens/voters view politics as a team sport, instead of a measure of what's best for the nation as a whole.

Too many citizens/voters don't see the nation as a whole (the sum of all people living in America, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or yes, even citizenship status), and are only concerned with what they think it should be.

Isn't that how people vote...how they think it should be? It doesn't matter that you or I may disagree how they think...they still have the right to think/vote that way.

Authoritarians believe there vision of what it should be, should be forced on everyone else and that they have the moral authority to do so.

Mods, please ban this whiner, and un-ban spartanmack, who is not as much of a whiner, but is dumber and less funny.

When I moderated that board I always thought the tattling was hilarious. Almost invariably the posters who accused others of reporting posts themselves reported the most often.

What does the "team sport" aspect of politics have to do with the level of civility? Also, I doubt you're not on the list of people who are incapable of civil disagreement.

Civil disagreement on this board is more than a challenge, Byco, it's pretty much impossible and it's a microcosm of what's taking place in Washington and around the country.

I'll get flamed for this but it should be clear by now that doesn't matter to me. I get flamed non-stop on this board and always have. The left is no longer capable of civil discourse. And you see it on this board. Express an opinion that runs counter to leftist narrative and you're going to be lambasted with every word in the book.

For a long time on this board I turned the other cheek. At one point, and for about two years, my tag line was "The quality of this message board is what you make it." That was one small thing I did to send a certain message. It had zero impact. Any time I expressed a thought or opinion that ran counter to the prevailing democrat narrative, I was excoriated. After a couple of years of not perfectly, but by and large turning the other cheek, I said fuck it. Thus my current tagline.

The left in this country is a disaster. Many of the guys posting here are better and more highly educated than me. I don't doubt that. But in the 21st century, better educated means more indoctrinated so the leftists on this board, whom I won't name in this post, suffer from group think and serious intolerance to diversity of thought. It's ugly, it's not likely to change and it's leading to a dark period.

Flame on!

There?s always going bad actors on both sides

Right because throwing a milkshake at someone is the same as punching them in the face, or running over them with a car, or shooting up a Synagogue and killing dozens...

Anyways, Pompeo, Bolton, et al have apparently given up on Venezuela, but are still on their bullshit with Iran.

No big deal, it's just what we do: constantly try to start wars and overthrow governments... because we are Number One! best country in the history of the planet.

The neocons are trying to get us into another war even Fox is advocating against it trump needs to get rid of Bolton never should have hired him in the first place Bolton is a neocon

I do think Trump seems to be soft pedaling the war hype, unlike shithead Pompeo and Bolton, and Trump doesn't really want to go to war. He wants to golf watch Fox and Friends and Morning Joe, and tweet.

Credit where credit is due... if he keeps us out of Iran, and -dare I hope? - withdraws the US from Syria and Afghanistan, and ideally Iraq as well... he would easily be 1,000 times better of a president than Bush or Obama, simply because he wouldn't have the body count of innocent dead that either of them do (Bush's is way bigger than Obama's BTW).

BTW - Would you agree that the Libdem chicoms aren't as bad as the neocon warmongers? I'm trying to see if we have any potential common ground here.
