Your Lions Offseason

Gamble with a bum shoulder or bullet Bill with a bum shoulder. Tough call.

Let's go with Houston then. And Green, Bartell and Greenwood if Bentley doesn't heal. Hell maybe a CB in Round 2 if you're feeling frisky.

2 year 2 million for Hilliard.

715 K cap number this year and 1,285,000 in 2014.

I agree. I'd take Gamble over Bush in a heartbeat. I thought you didn't like injury gambles though hughes. No pun intended. Gamble has a bum shoulder and missed most of last year.

just taking into consideration what they lions say they want in a cb. Youd have to think gamble would be the prototypical guy. tall, physical and fast...

5 mil a year for mckelvin.... helps paint the cb market a little more. hes an average guy and got average money for a starting corner. offer houston 7 maybe? or gamble 6 per? hopefully one of them bites. DRC is still an interesting guy....not sure what he will make since hes still young and comming off a couple poor seasons.

Leodis McKelvin - DB - Bills Bills re-signed CB Leodis McKelvin to a four-year, $20 million contract.
McKelvin was the most explosive return specialist in football last season -- Jacoby Jones included -- but the money here is surprising and may indicate the Bills envision McKelvin as a 2013 defensive contributor. He's long struggled in pass coverage and with his ball skills. Turning 28 before the season, McKelvin will probably compete with Aaron Williams to start at left corner opposite RCB Stephon Gilmore. The LCB position figures to remain an exploitable weakness if Mario Williams and Mark Anderson can't generate better pass rush. Source: Alex Marvez on Twitter Mar 9 - 11:36 AM

Could LeGarrette Blount be traded from Buccaneers to Detroit Lions?

CBS Sports reporter Jason LaConfora believes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could trade running back LeGarrette Blount to the Detroit Lions during NFL free agency.

AP File Photo The Detroit Lions were expected to heavily pursue a running back at the start of NFL free agency.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount was not predicted to be on that wish list.

Many Lions fans expected their team to go after Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush, but CBS Sports reporter Jason LaConfora believes Detroit could trade for Blount during free agency. Blount just agreed to a one-year deal with Tampa Bay, but with the emergence of Doug Martin, the Bucs are interested in trading their former starting running back.

Here is what LaConfora wrote:

Blount could fetch a mid-round pick in return -- some have suggested a fifth-round pick -- and with him not being a part of the offense much last year under new coach Greg Schiano, and with rookie runner Doug Martin coming off an exceptional season, it makes sense that Tampa Bay would try to get a pick in return for Blount.
Thus a trade would be a win-win, and with Detroit among the teams in need of a back, and Blount younger than most of the options in free agency, general manager Mark Dominik should be able to get something in return for the player.

Blount's new deal carries a $1.25 million base, another $500,000 in offseason bonuses and an additional $700,000 if he attains some reachable performance clauses in 2013, with every expectation that will be with a new team. The one-year deal also sets Blount up to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

LaConfora has great league sources, and I would never question his reporting ability. It is hard to gauge whether he is speculating -- or insinuating facts he may already know -- from his article.

Detroit needs a speedy back to replace Jahvid Best, and Blount mirrors the aggressive running style of Mikel Leshoure. Acquiring Blount would not fill the lack of explosiveness in Detroit's run game.

Blount rushed for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie in 2010, but had only 151 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games off-the-bench last season.

LaConfora has been pretty good about this stuff but I hope its dead wrong this time.

When we released Young our sucker punch output took a major hit. On the bright side he does have as many 1000 yard rushing seasons as Reggie Bush.

Guy had 151 yards last season, wasnt he coming off of an injury as well? Id be happier with the lions signing nobody at rb than that fucking guy. even if this it ends up being a rumor, its fucking depressing that the lions would even think about going that direction.

lmao. ya guy is worth a contract just so we can gain some street cred back. weve gone soft since the foot stomping, handhsake brawling, teammate punching, throwing ball in opponents face years. We can use blount like probert back in the good ol days.

We draft Tim Toone over him in the 7th and then trade a 5th for him? Sounds legit.

Jeff Backus - T - Lions DetroitLions.com believes LT Jeff Backus and TE Tony Scheffler could still be candidates for release.
Reporter Tim Twentyman cautions it's "pure speculation," but the fact that a team-approved writer is willing to put it out there is notable. Backus is due an affordable $2.75 million between salary and bonuses. Cutting Scheffler would free up $2.45 million in cap space, and make more sense considering his dreadful play in 2012. ...

Reggie Bush - RB - Dolphins CBS Sports' Mike Freeman reports Lions player are "recruiting (free agent) Reggie Bush."
It sounds like the Lions are gearing up for a full-court press on a player who would give their backfield need playmaking ability. They're facing competition from Arizona, who contacted Bush's agent on Saturday. Two seriously interested teams could be enough to get Bush near the $5 million he made in Miami last year. Where do they get their numbers from? Stuff I've read have him at 2.25 base with a 750K SB and a 500K bonus. So 3.5 sal and 1.25 savings if we cut him.

La'Rod Stephens-Howling - RB - Cardinals MLive.com says to "keep your eye on" free agent RBs La'Rod Stephens-Howling, Danny Woodhead, and Felix Jones for the Lions.
All three would be fallback plans if the Lions swing and miss on Reggie Bush. Stephens-Howling is a scatback with special teams value, and he would be a cheap alternative. Woodhead is likely looking to re-up in New England. Jones is injury prone but has a strong career yards-per-carry average. Related: Felix Jones, Danny Woodhead, Lions

Ted Ginn - WR - 49ers The Detroit Free Press thinks the Lions could be interested in free agent Ted Ginn if second-tier free agents get too pricey.
Ginn would be a third-tier receiver. It appears the second-tier guys like Danny Amendola will indeed be looking for monster paydays after Brian Hartline set their market high. Stefan Logan was a complete failure in the return game for Detroit last year. Ginn could replace Logan on special teams and Titus Young as a straight-line, situational deep threat. Related: Lions

poor chris Houston....always picks the wrong year to be a FA lol

Chris Houston - DB - Lions The Lions have an offer on the table for free agent CB Chris Houston, but he is expected to test the market.
Reports have been conflicting on the Lions' interest in Houston, but he appears to be a priority for the team to re-sign. Although burnable, Houston is easily the team's top cover man. We wouldn't expect his market to be overly robust in a deep free-agent cornerback pool.

One mans trash.

what was that you say? lol

Glenn Dorsey - DL - Chiefs CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs are "really trying" to re-sign free agent DE Glenn Dorsey.
La Canfora considers Dorsey "likely" to stay in K.C. We'd prefer to see Dorsey get an opportunity to rush the passer from a three-technique position in a 4-3. If he hits the market, Dorsey could make sense as the No. 3 tackle in Detroit.

you know youre in bad shape when Brandon Gibson is out of your price range lol.

Domenik Hixon - WR - Giants The Detroit Free Press hints the Lions will check in on second-tier free agent receivers like Domenik Hixon and Brandon Gibson.
With Nate Burleson in decline and Ryan Broyles recovering from another ACL tear, the Lions have a major need opposite Calvin Johnson. Greg Jennings would be a strong fit, but is likely too pricey. Gibson could make an impact as a chain-mover in the Lions' high-octane offense, but his reported demands (between $5-$6 million) will likely price him out of the Lions' range. Related: Lions, Brandon Gibson

Yeah the immortal Brandon Gibson.

Chris Gamble - DB - Free Agent Free agent CB Chris Gamble is planning to retire.
"A number of teams have expressed interest in (him)," Gamble's agent said in a statement. "However, Chris informed me last night that he wants to retire. Even though he still loves football, he told me that he's decided to focus on life after football." It's stunning news for a 30 year old who seemed to have some good football left, but could be an indication the shoulder injury that limited Gamble to four games last season was more serious than previously thought. Perpetually underrated since being the No. 28 pick of the 2004 draft, Gamble will finish his career with 27 interceptions across 123 games if he's indeed hanging up his cleats. It's possible Gamble will reconsider once training camp rolls around.
