It's a reasonable defense. You just have to be afraid for your life, right? (Or serious injury.) Well, who wouldn't be afraid of Zimmerman? He shoots people.

Also, there's some good lawyering here.
“George absolutely denies having shown it, waved, displayed, pointed it,” West said of Zimmerman's gun.

First, he doesn't clarify whether that list is strung together with an "or" or an "an". You think he mean "or", but nope. It's and "and". With an "and" in that sentence, you can technically include all sorts of things in your list of things you didn't do and still be telling the truth.

Like just now, I didn't read that article, write this post, and see a Sasquatch out the window.

Now we take out the "and", so you can assume it's an "or".

Just now, I didn't read that article, write this post, see a Sasquatch."

Zimmerman could have shown it, displayed it, and waved it, but he didn't point it!

it's debatable whether making colorful public statements about your client's innocence is good lawyering.

Apparently, when you stalk someone you don't like, harass them and shoot at them, you get arrested...

Sounds like the classic old, He said ...She said.

Too bad both aren't better shots, each could rid the rest of us of the other.

Apperson later told police Zimmerman made a threat and pointed a gun at him while he was in his car, so he fired one shot at Zimmerman's truck, the report said. Zimmerman told police he didn't point a gun at Apperson.

more or less unrelated, but probably not worth a whole new thread... did you guys read about that massive biker brawl in Waco, TX that left 9 dead, 18 wounded, and over a 100 arrested?

Sounds like the Twin Peaks in Waco knew something like this could happen over escalating tensions. Just glad to read some family walking by with a stroller wasn't caught in the middle

from the reports I read it sounds like the cops were already all over the place when shooting started, having warned the restaurant not to allow the meeting to go forward.

I was curious, so I bing-mapped it, and it looks like the place is more or less at the isolated end of strip-mall-heaven, so presumably that kept the number of bystanders down. I know if I was driving up to a Twin Peaks and saw it surrounded by cops, I'd keep moving on to Applebee's.

then I'd go home and wonder how my life went so wrong, that I found myself was driving around Waco TX, looking to eat at some strip mall restaurant...

9 dead, 18 wounded...

an armed society is a polite society?

which ones were "standing their ground?"

exercising their Second Amendment rights, as a well-regulated militia?

LOL, seriously ...

Waco has had its history of batshit crazy, for sure

Just another isolated incident and example of the bad apple spoiling the party for all those red-blooded American patriots just exercising his and her RIGHT to be able to shoot somebody if they want to or feel the need to.

some sources are starting to report that all the dead (& everyone shot) were shot by police.

sounds like as soon as the local PD and SWAT members outside saw a gun, they opened up on the mob of fighting bikers on full automatic.

guess they figured nobody would protest too much if they slaughtered a bunch of bikers in order to keep the peace.
