Zimmerman To Be Charged

Yeah . . . but I imagine it is more productive discussing how to fix it, rather than ranting about how it got that way. What cause in Florida have you given money to that is trying to get this law repealed?

I read the NRA's lobbying spend outweighs all opposition by something like 10-to-1 (and that's just the NRA; there are other pro-gun orgs also fighting gun-control efforts). The money the NRA throws around is largely enabled by the obscene amounts of money it receives from gun manufacturers... so I think any cash I could afford to donate (limited by my need to responsibly pay my bills and provide for my family) would be largely futile.

I can better serve the cause by convincing others, and posting on the web is one way to do it. maybe i'll create a blog too.

You could tweet about it.

OK - so how do you fix it? Post something realistic or go home. No one will read a blog that is based entirely on your distorted world view that includes everyone stop thinking for themselves and think just like you.

We need the idea of separation of business and state to lodge in everyone's' craniums. People need to recognize the importance of it and question everything with that filter.

state
religion
business
news

All of these thing should be separated from the others to the degree they can be.

well, to fix the problems caused by stand your ground laws, it is not too complicated: repeal them.

There are literally hundreds of Christian blogs that expect people to do exactly that.

. . . and I don't read those either.

Any schmuck can start a blog. Getting others to respect it enough to read it regularly and keep it going by adding their own insight - that is an entirely different thing.

Yeah I think we established that you aren't participating in any movements to get the law repealed, so while it is not complicated, it would help if your advice was something more substantial than something you are willing to say but not do or participate in.

Even the Tea Party and Occupy movements had more oomph than that (when they started of course). Just like most of the other rich and famous tree-huggers. Do as I say about being green, but please overlook that I drive the biggest baddest vehicle on the planet, oh and please overlook all the fuel I use on my private jet going around the world to get my favorite pizza.

not sure where you're going with this one. so... because I'm not out doing something, my opinion that stand your ground laws are bad and should be repealed is invalid?

I'm not implying you did read any of them. Just that you said nobody would read a blog like that, and I believe that's a very incorrect statement.

Terrible analogy. Unless champ is really running around with a gun in his pocket hoping someone will force him to use it.

(this applies to the first paragraph) You're against abortion no? Are you out picketing clinics several times a year? Marching on your state capitol, writing tersely worded letters to your congressman? That idea is a 2-way street my friend.

OK, fair enough, plenty of dummies out there. So you would read michchamp's blog?

Why yes I do. I haven't picketed in a long time, but when I believe strongly enough in something to try to get others to believe, you are damn right it would be enough to get me involved. So bad analogy back at ya.

If I thought my child was getting a bad public education, I would jump in and run for the school board. You don't change things by blogging on a politics forum of a Michigan sports message board. Lively discussion, of course, but change anything? not a chance.

Don't you get tired of hearing people say "do as I say", but then don't follow it up with actions plans of their own to solve the problem?

Nope -the opinion is valid enough. Have you seen me argue for "Stand Your Ground laws? I thought we also established in this very thread that this trial wasn't really invoking them, no?

Continue ranting, and I will continue to pick on parts of your argument that make no sense. Agreed?

Got ya on the analogy. Is he running around with a gun hoping for someone to force him to use it? Probably not, unless its me maybe :*)

. . . but keep in mine comparing two things by juxtaposing the feelings evoked when reading them, is actually a valid comparison. I think you misunderstand the definition of analogy.

Straight out of dictionary.com:
. . . a form of reasoning in which one thing is inferred to be similar to another thing in a certain respect, on the basis of the known similarity between the things in other respects.

So my "analogy" doesn't have to mean that Champ is running around with a gun. It doesn't have to be alike in every single way there is. I know how much you'all love to argue semantics, but if your going to challenge me on it, I think it is fair game.

I wouldn't - why would I?

What would be different than what he already blogs here, anyway...?

Oh you would be surprised. You could learn all about Krugman's economic plan for America, and the Republican party's demiise.

Let me ask you this:

Which of the following is more persuasive to you?

a) What we really need is for that idiot is to grow some teeth, and stop screwing his sister.

b) That person can't possibly have enough education to make an informed argument for "Stand Your Ground" laws.

I will argue against the first one every day, but if I don't have something to offer for the second one, it might actually persuade me to stay out of the discussion.

Which would provide a better outcome (at least as far as this board is concerned)?

I'm just sayin'
