MLB TV just stated we r trying to get Lopez. Not sure what we would have to give up, but would be an outstanding addition to our bullpen.

I think we'd be pretty well set if we wound up adding Veras, Iglesia, and Lopez while only losing Peralta and whoever we end up sending down/out to make room.

Just worried what prospect would we have to give up if the rumors r true.

Since 2010 Away

80.3 IP 86 H 27 ER 37 BB 46 SO 3.02 ERA 1.53 WHIP 4.15 BB/G 5.15 SO/G

That is his overall away split. His split against righties is not much better than Coke's. How is he a solution?

Coke Since 2010 Away

137.0 IP 154 H 56 ER 54 BB 103 SO 3.68 ERA 1.52 WHIP 3.55 BB/G 6.77 SO/G

The solution is to use Coke properly (against lefties only).

Tigers want to extend Lopez one year. Otherwise, Javier is worth little as a two month rental that plays in 70 games and only works 35 innings.

Even Bobby Seay worked longer on the mound than that. The NL can afford to do that. Our AL won't waste a roster space on a one, maybe two batter reliever.

I'm sure Leyland and Dombrowski want to double Lopez's time on the mound.... average closer to an inning per visit.

Lots of reasons why Javier is not a Tiger ... as of 2:24 PM ...lol

Lopez is having a far superior 2013 than Coke is in most statistical categories both vs. righties and lefties. It looks like he hasn't given up a home run all year either. A lot would depend on what the Tigers give up for him, but I would consider him an upgrade over Coke as a situational lefty.

I would too but Leyland doesn't use situation lefties in the typical sense.

Exactly!
Jim wants flex and a little length (when necessary) inside his players.

Oh - BTW. Jurrjens on MiLB/TV tonight for the Hens.... if you can stream it.

Looks like there's also talks with the Blue Jays about Darren Oliver. He would be cheaper for sure. Might only have to give up Ortega and a small amount of cash.

Ortega and his 6.2 W/9IP for his minor league career would be a win no matter who we got.

using coke is a guarantee that the other team brings in a RH pinch hitter and then we're screwed

Sometimes, and I stress the word, sometimes, that can be an advantage. Get them to burn a starter and get a bench scrub into the game.
