1998 Do Over

If Peyton was obtained by the Lions, would having Sanders as his RB and Moore-Morton as his primary wideouts been enough for him not to oppose a trade to the Lions?

Dunno if he would have wanted to play for Ross, but that was only his 2nd season as Lions HC, and before he went mad dog b/c of poor play and Mitchell's propensity to turn turtle under pressure from opposing defenses, throwing INTs to avoid being flushed out of the pocket or sacked. Scotty was extremely fortunate to have Sanders as his RB, b/c IMO, he wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as he did as a starting Lions QB.

Once opposing HCs and DCs realized that targeting Mitchell, and containing Sanders was the key to taming the Lions O, Mitchell's days were numbered.

Maybe I'm just the old fart on the board and was around for it to remember it, but Peyton was very clear that year... the ONLY team he would not in any way sign with was San Diego.

He was crystal clear that he would happily play for any other team, but he would not play for San Diego after the way they handled his father. Eli repeated the exact mantra in 2004, and even went so far as to claim his brother was willing to loan him a few million to sit out the year rather than sign in San Diego.

I think a big reason from what I read is that Archie knew what it was like to play for a bad franchise, no talent. For years be did that. We might not think that way of SD now but that was one bad franchise. His father endured enough with the Saints.

I bet there are kids in each draft that quietly say they don't want to play for a certain franchise. I remember when Deion eluded to that about us when he was about to be drafted.

Alternate Universe... Bob is probably a cat hoarder with 5 dogs... But I have a great powerful back that has never gone out.... Lions are 7-2 in Super Bowls as they never traded Bobby Layne so the curse was never put in place... Ford's never bought the team in 1963..
