2013-14 season prediction thread

Health didn't have much to do with blowing a 4th quarter lead several times last year.

Sure it does. Having your original starters out there over your backups is huge. I know its hard for you to grasp but think about it....dont be so fn stupid.

Actually it did without Bentley and Delmas not being able to play in the 4th quarter. Starting secondary may have helped in prevent situations

not when you don't get any pass rush.

More time to pass rush with better secondary players. Delmas healthy plays against Green Bay, 4th Quarter against Houston/Indy we probably win those games. DT pass rush was there as well.

The DEs played poorly unexpectedly and were replaced. I look forward to Ansah/Jones/Idonije, health for Bentley/Delmas and the addition of Quin/Slay/Bartell(more than 1 game).

That's the thing I never understood with this argument:

If we had injuries but still managed to be winning for most of the game and then "blow" it, how is that because of injuries? It didn't seem to stop them for most of the game. Or do backups only play well for 3 1/2 quarters?

Often times the difference between a starter and a backup is conditioning and work ethic. It's the same reason there are a lot of 5th and 6th round picks who become stars, and 1st and 2nd round picks that bust.

Talent gets all of these guys noticed, but quite often it's the guy that works the hardest that see the field the most.

So yeah, it's very possible IMO, that a lot of these backups can play hard for 3 quarters, but it takes 4 quarters (and sometimes more) to win games.

Maybe but don't they have the same out of game conditioning that starters get? Plus, if what LKP keeps saying was true, lots and lots of injuries our backups were in week after week so their conditioning should be good.

I just think its a bullshit theory. It always seems like The Lions have all the injuries and all the turnovers etc. Its bullshit :bs:

it is bs. Baltimore lost half their team to injury last year and won the superbowl. Depth has been a major issue and its one of the main reasons ive hated mayhew. That's what poor draft after poor draft gets you.

I just don't understand why no one wants to say "we were bad and need to improve in these areas" and end it. Rather we were bad but...there's always a but.

Delmas was removed for alot of the 4th Quarter against Houston/Indy. The 2 big comeback games. The backups did play all game against Green Bay but it's only a matter of time when playing backups against Rodgers.

If we're relying on Delmas to stay healthy in order to win games, we're screwed.

Ozzie has been there for years to build depth. Mayhew didn't have that luxury or the cap room in 2012 thanks to the old CBA. And in Mayhew's case the backup got hurt too (see Don Carey in training camp/Spievey, see Young insanity after becoming the number 2 ofr Burleson and then Broyles for both Burleson/Young as the number 2 and 3 WR, Fairley after CW and Lacey after Bentley (Green actually did a solid job).

Lions backups actually did do well in 2012 for the most part. Hill for Stafford, Palmer for Levy in 2 games, Reiff for Backus, Carey did well once he got healthy, Broyles did well filling in for Burleson/Young, Jonte Green did solid for a 6th round rookie. Sammie Lee Hill did well.

The 4th-6th string safeties of Colmena, Wendling, Silva sucked and street WRs of Thomas/Durham/Robiskie sucked. Florence was signed due to Houston/Bentleys preseason injury. Scheffler/Lawrence Jackson/Willie Young are the only true backup that I thought could do better. Jacob Lacey was just average battling injuries all year.

The turnovers were a problem in 2012. Lack of forced and 33 allowed. Going forward this must and can be fixed. No matter what happened in 2012, the Lions have the talent and personnel to fix the win killing turnovers that were very crucial in many close games.

Not anymore with Quin. It would be nice if the backup in Carey stayed healthy. I'm relying on Quin/Carey staying healthy if Delmas goes down. We shouldn't lose the top 3 safeties in back to back years and WRS 2-4 for 5 games and TE for the last 4. And with Bush, we have an explosive RB again.

were unhealthy(especially secondary all year and weapons/DT down the stretch) and turnover prone, not bad.

But we did add a bunch of talent and depth to help.

Yeah, okay Sparky.

Thats the thing. If our starters were in there most of the time and not sitting on the sidelines, maybe there was no chance of blowing it, right? Backups are backups for a reason. Theres a reason why they dont start. Its all good that we're winning the game but you gotta close out shit and normally your starters do that.
