Projected to be around 140 million.

If Suh walks between him and Houston we have 13.4 million in dead money. Sucks to have 10% of the cap in dead money.

We are at 120 commitments only with room to restructure and have some cutable vets for even more space

It's called incompetence. And yes we know restructuring Suh got us a handful of starters who gave us two forgettable seasons, and no, Houston was never good. And yes, Mayhew will get an extension for losing to an 8-8 Saints team in the Superdome and my head will explode like that scene from Scanners and I will console myself by buying Ifo Ikpre Olumu jersey and telling myself Stafford just needs moar weapons.

Pleny of room in 2014 even with dead money.

Of course we can push money into later years LKP. Thats what got us to this point.

The point was we have 10% of our cap commited to players that wont be with the team if Suh walks.

LKP you do realize what 13 million can get you in FA right?

Top corner, lb, dline. Go after a top o-lineman

Thats the point. Yeah we can field a team but we are missing out on making the team better

We don't need any of that with suh back. Lions already stacked even losing fairley. We have room.for free agents too if we want.

If Suh fails to exercise his 2015 option (which he will), is that 9+ million of dead money still counting against the cap? I was under the impression that if his contract ran out at the end of the season, we were off the hook. Granted, I'm not very cap knowledgable so I'm probably 100% wrong.

Player option for 2015, so it will count the 9 million against the cap even if Suh doesnt pick up the option.

We dont need 1/10th of the cap????

Unless we win the Super bowl hell yes we need that money.

Next year we will have 52 Million wrapped up in dead money and Stafford and Johnson. 37% and only two roster spots filled. However Next year is not the year I am worried about. We still have most starters under contract, of course our best defensive player will be gone (Suh), but still overall we aren't in horrible position.

2016 is the year I'm most worried about. We will have about 90 Million against the cap currently and only 10 starters.

Calvin
Tate
Stafford
Bell/Riddick
Ebron
Warford
Quin
Ansah
Slay

Potentional starters:
Van Noy
Swanson

and a Punter - Martin.

Then we have 7 backup/special teamers.

So 20 people under contract with 90 Million committed.

Still will need to find 10-13 starters, and 20-23 other bodies to fill out the roster. 30+ players for around 60 million. In a league with sky rocketing contracts.

Yeah but there is plenty of spots for us to make space.

Reggie Bush (4 million), Pettigrew (4 Million), and Don Carey (1.2 Million) for instance could all be cut.

Would any of us miss those three?

Also, I think Rob Sims, Palmer, Raiola, Owens, etc are all coming off the books this offseason too. Don't care about them any

Pettigrew is only a 800K savings in 2015, bush 1.7 Million. I figured they won't be cut until 2016. I factored those cuts into my 2016 calculations.

Yeah but the salary cap forecasts shows that the strong increase in the cap from this year to next is only the start. With the new revenue and TV deals the Salary Cap will likely hover around 160 million by 2016.

The new TV Deals hit this year but the affect of them won't actually register till the year after. Conservative thinkers say 152 Million in 2016, most say higher, much higher

I hope so, I was working under the assumption it would be around 150 Million in 2016. The only issue with cap increases is that everyone gets them and makes all players more expensive. If the cap goes up 10-15%, I'm willing to be contracts will go up at least 10-15%, but that will make current contracts more palatable.

Maybe in 2016 22 million for a QB will be average.

Yeah its why there has been a rash of high contracts. Teams know what its gonna be in the future. Same thing is happening in baseball too.

Two drafts until 2016 kicks off. Figure 4-6 starters or more from two drafts.....and rookie deals are very cap friendly now.....and it's really not that bad.

Plus like zoom said....cap will be higher than $140M by then. I dont think contracts are sky rocketing either. Are they going up, sure, but a LOT of the big total contracts are just "show" contracts. No way most of the big money guys, like Dalton, see the end of their deals.

I actually like the lower cap. 120m to me is perfect. More cap just means more money to players already making a ton of money. Or more dead money down the road when you realize the mid level guys you signed really suck.
