2018 Head Coach Search Matt Patricia

Five potential DC candidates

https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2018...or-candidates-for-detroit-lions-matt-patricia

- Brian Flores, Patriots LB coach
- Josh Boyer, Patriots DB coach
- Brendan Daly, Patriots DL coach
- Pepper Johnson, former Patriots DL/LB coach
- Kris Richard, former Seahawks DC

Flores would be a good pick... he's in the running for the Arizona HC job. And id assume be top candidate for ne dc job once Patricia left. So doubt we land him.

Richard would be my next choice.

Schiano is out there as a dark horse pick.

Mike Nolan is sitting there as a NO lb coach...

Screw the Bill Belichick Coaching Tree argument against Matt Patricia

This is a fantastic article. I always thought the argument was bunk due to low sample size compared to the success rate of new coaches in general, but this goes into a bit more detail regarding each situation.

Agreed great article. Patricia has a great situation in Detroit and can put the finishing touches on a great team.

The other 4 coaches inherited disasters and truly terrible QBs

The opposite argument is Bill is the star. He controls everything... doesn't let go of control to others. And doesnt get his staff ready to be successful when they are on their own.

Mangini mcdaniels crennel and weiss were disasters. Obrien some success.

They came into disasters. Especially when coaching the Browns. The current guy is 1-31.

McDaniels can coach. He's not a GM per Denver though

Patricia shows good things with adjustments and getting players to fit and use their strengths. He clearly learned from Bill but he knows what to do.

And Cooter will be the offense. We'll see who they add on Oline and maybe a run game coordinator.

You know who else couldn't fix the Browns. Bill Belichick

Mcdaniels had an elite level team ... was terrible at evaluating talent and got canned.

Romeo crennel had sucked everywhere he went... not just the browns.

Charlie Weiss sucked terribly at notre dame... couldn't recruit worth a lick. Couldn't coach worth a lick in one of the most prolific schools in the country. It's his job to get talent there.

Schwartz fired. Hot head that let his gm fail him over and over again.

Saban... not sure how much credit he attributes his success to bellichick. Would be interesting to hear him talk about.

Broncos were horseshit during that time. A stupid GM that drafted Tim Tebow. Which if you look closer, many HC failed because of their GM's.

Horseshit? They went to rd 2 of the playoffs with Tebow.

Elite roster without a qb.... so you're praising mcdaniels as a coach or not?

Personally i think he's fine as a coach and got canned for personnel decisions... or atleast that's the excuse they used to bring elway/ manning in. Regardless he wasn't successful.
