2018 Mid Season Roster Moves

If I had to choose between the two, I would keep Reyes. He's only 23 and had better minor league numbers. There is more upside with him.

Fair argument. Reyes hasn't had the chance to prove anything at the major league level. He's had less than 30 AB's scattered over 40~ games. Not really fair to him to judge him on only that, way too small of a sample. But I do agree his minor league numbers look pretty good.

All I know is Stewart is 24 after being drafted from college. What are they waiting for? Being 'em up and see if he can play.

Yes this...I keep telling myself if we ran Delmon Young out there, anyone who can hit can play OF for us. LOL. I really want to see what the kid can do.

When he comes back DH, release Victor. Hicks is doing fine at 1B.

Edit: Plus opens a 40 spot for Stewart.

the team would be better without Victor. A full time DH is a roster killer unless it's someone that is a top 20 hitter.

Reyes is a Rule 5 player. He has to stay up on the big league club all season long. He serves no purpose unless he is playing everyday. He is not going to get better the way he is being utilized.

There is absolutely no skill that Reyes has that is above average except maybe his eye-hand. that skill has been in question since the beginning of Spring Training.

That said, there are at least 8-12 players on the 40-man roster who are past "prospect" status. They are older than 25 years old and will most likely not amount to anything. Injuries being what they are, there is no way they get rid of either Mahtook or Reyes.

That shows me that they don't care. 40, no 40 - making money, prospect status.. blah blah blah. Play the best guys. Victor is a shit DH. Get rid of him.

I agree they aren't going to release either. I was just saying if you are going to release one you get rid of Mahtook

I agree it's time to let Victor go as much as that saddens me it's just time to hang em up VMart. happens to everyone eventually.

Agree. Had some very nice years for us.. but it's time to build for the future.

I did a little reading and the Tigers would be smart to not call Stewart up until mid June which is the typical "Super 2" deadline. It's complicated, and I may not have read it correctly, but essentially if they wait they get one more full year of team control. The Tigers aren't going anywhere this year. IMO, it's worth the extra year of team control.

Top 22% of anything over 2, but less than 3 on the 25-man roster. The average is to keep them down for an average of 65 service days during the first year, assuming they are not "optioned" in the other 2 years. If he was called up now, there is all kinds of ways to keep him from getting super 2.

I'm more confused than ever ;)

My guess the concern is mostly with guys that are projected to be "great" and never being optioned to the minors? I almost always hear "super 2 talk" about other teams' stud prospects.

would you rather have Adams or Boyd & Norris?

Adames (but it wasn't just Adames in the Price deal)

2016 Away = .278 BAVG .380 OBP .422 SLG .802 OPS

2017 Away = .275 BAVG .366 OBP .430 SLG .796 OPS

2018 Away = .317 BAVG .377 OBP .433 SLG .810 OPS

1) Willy Adames, SS, Grade B+/A-: Age 22, from the Dominican Republic, originally in Detroit Tigers system until 2014 David Price trade, hit .277/.360/.415 with 10 homers, 30 doubles, 11 steals, 65 walks, 132 strikeouts in 506 at-bats in Triple-A; the negative: K-rate is higher than ideal; the positives: he has more power than most shortstops and has the bat speed to keep that going in the majors, draws walks, can swipe a base, earns consistent praise for both his makeup and his shortstop defense; don’t expect him to hit .300 right now but he’ll do a whole bunch of other stuff; may bump up to A- when all teams are analyzed; ETA 2018.

Scouting Report: Adames is just starting to tap into his potential. He has plus bat speed and enough physicality that should allow him to hit for plus in-game power. That said, the power has yet to show up but he just turned 22-years-old, so some patience needs to be exercised.
Over the last two years, he’s shown a very good ability to control the strike zone. His walk rate is over 10% and while his strikeout is 21% to 22%, it should be enough for him to have a major league career and see a couple of all-star games.
Defensively, Adames should be able to stay at short long-term. He’s very athletic with a strong arm and excellent footwork. But, Hechavarria is a better defensive player so a move to second or a trade of Hechavarria could be in the making.
Fantasy Impact: Adames is a Top 25 prospect and one of the better shortstop prospects in the game. His fantasy upside is a Top ten shortstop with 20 HR/15 SB upside with a .270 batting average and a .350 on-base percentage

Francisco Liriano and Daniel Stumpf on the disabled list due to a right hamstring strain and ulnar nerve irritation

Ryan Carpenter is coming up to join the team?s rotation for the time being, per MLB.com?s Jason Beck (on Twitter), while right-hander Johnny Barbato will be added to the bullpen.

Sucks Liriano is out, was hoping we could trade him come the deadline, not that we could get much for him but he's been a pretty good signing so far IMO.
