2018 Opening Day Roster

Mr. I wanted to get a WS - hard to blame him there. It's similar to the Wings - you have a stretch of success always buying, losing 1st round picks - any decent youth to get better .. It was easy to see this happening eventually.

If I had to absolutely blame someone it would be Dombrowski .. even the limitations of what the Tigers had he could not draft. At all.

So I will reiterate I'm going to enjoy this season and the ones to follow to get back on top. That's the fun part.

I blame Jimmy Smokes.

Interesting. I never heard of him until today. Maybe they can dump Iggy sometime before the trade deadline. I don't even know why they signed Iggy unless they plan to trade him.

I think they have been trying to deal him to San Diego for about 2 years now, for whatever reason just never seems to work out.

Any games or parts of games I watch this year will be to see Miggy climb the HOF boards and that's about it. I will be surprised if I get upset a single time this year. Even when Miggy slumps or gets hurt again. If I do remind me of this post. LOL.

If I know one thing about this board is we whine about everything..(though maybe whine isn't the right word) Probably a typical sports board. The one thing that worries me is Al Sr. I just don't see him as a decent GM. But I wonder if Chris I. knows enough to part ways?

"If I do remind me of this post." Absolutely, lol.

That's an even better idea! all frustration expressed this year should be directed towards Al Avila only! I'm good with that.

Agree. I get cutting paying but he could have improved the team in the off-season better than what he has.. Without spending much money.

I will watch for the opposite reason. I really don't care about Miggy's counting numbers...by the time this team turns it around, it's likely he will be useless to the team. This season I will be more interested in watching the younger guys and watch the players that might be assets in trades down the road.

I like watching the youngsters as well. Not many but more than we had a couple years ago. But I really want Miggy to turn it around and to get his 3000th hit (3 years?) will be exciting.

Actually probably 2 years for Miggy - by the end of next season.

Youngster playing along a potential HoFer is a plus. There are a lot of value in that, even if the numbers aren't.

Maybe we can lead the league in baseball brawls ! Do we have any brawlers ?

bad attitude or poor work ethic. Not every potential HOF player has a positive impact on young players.

Now you are suggesting Cabrera has a bad attitude or poor work ethic.

Generally speaking, bad attitude or poor work ethic is not part of a description to a HoF caliber player. Quite the opposite actually. The last three HoF for DET is Al Kaline, Jack Morris and Alan Trammell. Which one was not someone a young player wouldn't want to play alongside? Do tell.

Your hatred for Miguel Cabrera's contract is clouding your judgement. I wonder if you have considered all the years playing for DET and he was "underpaid". I am with you on "overpaying" for someone else's talent (Pelfrey, Ellsbury, even Fielder). But when there is a long term investment in a player (i.e. Cabrera, Verlander), their value in the contract is a wash. How many years did we get outstanding value from Verlander, Cabrera? One bad performance year by Cabrera and everyone has their knickers in an uproar. Like Verlander did, I hope the hell he silences their critics.

I'm not talking about Cabrera. You said

and I said that's not always the case.

If we are talking about Miggy...he probably does have a good work ethic. As far as his attitude and leadership abilities...I have no idea what kind of influence he has on young players coming up. From the outside, he doesn't appear to be much of a leader...but I have no idea.
