2021 MLB Draft Tigers Picks: Draft Jackson Jobe 1.3.

Starters 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 SS etc.. and 5 SP plus 7-8 RP. I see nothing wrong with using one draft on just P.

As far as our MILB system, pitcher heavy is not true. They're all at the ML level now, Mize-Skubal-Manning.. Top 10 Tiger prospects currently 7 offensive players, 3 pitchers (One of those being Manning). We need lots of pitching.

Go from top prospects 11-20, all offensive players.

Jobe?s eventual draft position largely hinges on whether the Tigers decide to pull the trigger on drafting him with the third overall pick. There aren?t any other teams with a lot of reported interest in him, and in most mock drafts where Detroit goes a different direction, Jobe slides to somewhere in the neighborhood of the tenth pick.

With that in mind, the report that general manager Al Avila may try to get a bargain on Jobe?s signing bonus if he is a sensible one.

?Our most recent intel suggests they will look to cut an under-slot deal with Jobe, who comes with all of the risks associated with high school arms but also arguably has the best pure stuff in the draft,? wrote Eric Longenhagen in the most recent FanGraphs mock draft.

True enough, high school pitchers have a bad reputation at the top of the draft. They fail to pan out at an alarming rate, and Avila really needs to nail this pick if ownership isn?t planning to spend money on the major league roster. However, if any team at the top of the draft is equipped to make something out of Jobe, it?s the Tigers. They?ve consistently upgraded the methods used to evaluate pitching throughout Avila?s tenure and established themselves on the cutting edge of pitching coaching by the hirings Dan Hubbs and, more notably, Chris Fetter.

More and more reports linking Detroit Tigers' Chris Fetter to having influence on the Tigers' draft selection. They chose 12 pitchers, 11 of them RHP.
The common bond? These young prospects all have sliders with high spin rates. Fetter is a big fan of this type of pitcher.

Fetter spoke to the Front Office during ST meetings. Could you imagine Rick Anderson, Rich Dubee or Chris Bosio doing the same? It appears that A. J. Hinch and his coaches now have a certain amount of influence in what players are signed or drafted. And that's really good news.

Overall: GM Al Avila knew he needed more bats in the system and instead went with pitching. The fact that he chose Jackson with the third overall pick and then made a run on pitching shows he?s wary about past pitching selections he?s made in previous drafts. Jackson might be good down the road, but we won?t see him for years. This begs the question: how long does Al Avila anticipate this rebuild taking?

I've said it before and will continue to say it,
Al Avila is a fucking Dope and Son Ilitch is a cheap f'n bastard.

So the Tigers select a bunch of pitchers because management wants to stock the farm system with pitchers and the guy gives them a C-

The Angles select 20 pitchers and not a single position player, and they get a B+

Overall: Spoiler alert, I?m going to be a little down on most teams who focus on all pitching or all positional with their selections. The Angels are the exception to this, though. They are desperate for a good pitcher. They haven?t had a star pitching prospect in years. Maybe decades. It seems what general manager Perry Minasian did was say ?screw it? and draft as many quality pitchers as he could in hopes of finding a gem.

So a GM that has a draft strategy of "SREW IT" gets a B+

I have a feeling that the guy that wrote the article is a dope.

Detroit is getting a bad score because these people that gives scores had in mind one player and because they went elsewhere automatic bad score. Which is so dumb. They complain about a HS pitcher who might not be pro ready for 4-5 years yet wanted the top SS who wouldn't be ready for 4-5 years. All grades should be incomplete at this point.

Reasons why Ty Madden may have fell in the draft
1. $$$$ teams felt value was less than the player.
2. FB quality concerns.
3. worries about spin rate post substance restrictions.

You don't just fall 20 spots over money..if teams think you're that good..they pay you..2M is nothing.

My guess and in our chat..the esteemed Chris Brown guess..is Madden gets paid about 3M..about pick 22 money about $750,000 over 32 slot..which is what I expect DET to have saved on Jobe.

The 2021 draft was held earlier this week. The Detroit Tigers made 21 selections and out of those, 12 of them were pitchers (11RHP). Filling out the ranks were 2 catchers, 4 OFers, 1 SS and 2 1Bers.

It will be a number of years before we can accurately grade these acquisitions, but what do you think about the Tigers? draft results?
