Wednesday, signing defenseman Albert Johansson to a one-year, two-way deal. He might have a shot on the Red Wings this coming season. He was an RFA. $775,000.

Detroit traded Jake Walman and a 2nd to SJ for future considerations a couple days ago. On paper doesn't look good but there is speculations on what the future consideration could mean - and Walman seemed to wear out his welcome last season.

Not Red Wings news per say but Holland was let go from Edmonton.

Rumor: Patrick Kane and the Red Wings closing in on a one-year deal. This would be huge. Most thought he'd want 3 years.

Kane contract has bonuses. Per sources:
$4M base
$1.5M at 10 games
$250k at 60 games
$500k if they make playoffs
$250k for 60 POINTS AND playoffs.

Total is $6.5M

[Dreger] Talbot to Detroit. $2,500,000 per year for two years. Goalie. He's old as fk but had a good year with LA last season starting 51 games.

Erik Gustafsson 2 x $2M. Basically a replacement for Ghost, similar scoring but better defense and cheaper.

UPDATE: The #RedWings today signed forward Sheldon Dries to a two-year, two-way contract.

He'll be a floater between GR & Detroit.

Nothing really moving the needle so far
They don't need to based on the fact they were a fringe playoff team and improved every year. But replacing what they lost, esp. at a discount keeps status quo so that's a good thing. More signings are on the way plus some talent ml prospects.

Yeah maybe by year 8 they'll sneak in the playoffs
You do realize they were left in shamples after the epic 25 year run. This isn't the NFL or NBA where players go straight to the pros. It takes time. The team has improve every year since Yzerman took over.. What other Detroit team can say they improve 4 seasons in a row. Esp. in the tough eastern conference.

It took the Lions over 30 years to win a playoff game so I think the Wings are ahead of that curve.

UPDATE: The Red Wings today signed forward Christian Fischer to a one-year contract with an AAV of $1.125M AAV. Great sign. He was a nice addition last season.

UPDATE: The Red Wings today signed forward Joe Snively to a one-year, two-way contract. GR Depth.

[Detroit Red Wings] UPDATE: The Red Wings today signed forward Tyler Motte to a one-year contract with an AAV of $800K. Another tweener, anoth man from Michigan.

Are these one-year deals indicative of the lack of depth in the organization? Or a lack of readiness of the players in development? Or a cap issue? Wings are $20,000,000 to the good. I see that the Blues signed Buchnevich to a large, long-term extension.

The ones that are under $1m are AHL depth or two-ways (when injuries happen they might be in Detroit). The 20 mill is a bit misleading.. Raymond & Seider are both RFA and they will either sign bridge deals or long term deals and a good chunk of that 20 mill is set for them..

The #RedWings today signed forward Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract with an AAV of $4.75M

Good player. Maybe not the same when he was younger but good .. My bet is gets put on line 2.

Isn't Kane the RW on the 2nd line?
