2025 Tigers Spring Training

Just can’t believe this owner won’t buy out Baez . Are they afraid he will sign with someone else and that club will figure out what’s wrong with him ? I know we need Right Handed Bats but I just don’t see his glove at third being any good.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

It seems that weekly, the contest for the last 2 remaining starting pitcher changes. Pitchers just picking up steam, some falling back, some taking quantum leaps.
So who will – who should – earn those last 2 slots?
A. J. Hinch has said repeatedly that it will not be based upon the box scores. That any decisions made will “go beyond the box score.” That means it will be about who controls the strike zone the best, who consistently strikes out players and who has the best and biggest arsenal. Also considered is velocity and experience.

So who will join Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty and Reese Olson? There are 4 in the running. But keep in mind that 1 of them will get sent down when Alex Cobb returns.

Here’s what you need to know:
JACKSON JOBE (rookie with 4 IN MLB experience)
  • 12.1 innings pitched 7 R/5 ER 3.12 ERA/.81 WHIP 8 SO
  • Throws the hardest but problems controlling the strike zone and working 2-strike counts
  • Throws 4 pitches, just added new one this spring
KENTA MAEDA (veteran with 8 yrs. experience)
  • 12.2 innings pitched 13 R/8 ER 5.68 ERA/1.11 WHIP 19 SO
  • Leads team in SOs and has picked up his velocity from 2024 (revamped his training program)
  • Throw 7 pitches but is being encouraged to throw fewer
CASEY MIZE (2 full years + 9 additional starts)
  • 11.1 innings pitched 4 R/ 0 ER 0.00 ERA/0.79 WHIP 14 SO
  • Throwing harder and only pitcher who has given up no earned runs
  • Throws more pitches than the other 3, revamped throwing program, turned slider into 3 different pitches, added valuable sweeper pitch
KEIDER MONTERO (rookie with half a season)
  • 5.2 innings pitched 6 R/4 ER 6.35 ERA/1.59 WHIP 9 SO
  • Throws 5 pitches
  • Changed mechanics and now throws 6 pitches
Which 2 starting pitchers would you select to join the rotation?

I went with Mize and Maeda. Jobe needs to start in the minor leagues.
