23 Proposed Rule Changes

Hopefully he isn't behind these proposed scoring changes. When the mathematics of score keeping exceeds the intelligence level of some participating athletes, you've gone too far.

Really don't understand this desire to change a working and proven scoring system. Adding the potential 2pt try was reasonable, these here are asinine and just flat out fucking retarded, and those submitting such suggestions should be banned from the league.

The extra point try after a 2 point conversion was proposed by the Colts.

The last few years they have looked for ways to make extra points more exciting. They've talked about moving them back, etc... because they are so automatic now.

The Colts proposed the 9-point score as a way to encourage the 2-point try, and yet not piss off the NFLPA by limiting the role of the kicker.

If you complete the 2-point conversion, you get to try a field goal from 50 yards (not automatic) for that extra point, making a TD worth a potential of 9. It would take three field goals to equal the points of a single 9-point TD, conversion, and kick.

Realistically, it would do exactly what the NFL wants by encouraging more 2 pointers, without cutting out the kicker position as a prime scoring position on a roster.

I think if it wasn't so "odd" of a thought for today's game, most of us would think it makes a lot of sense. I imagine this is similar to what fans of the game felt when they added in the extra point.

while their intention may be to not limit the role of the kicker it just may do that. With a TD being potentially worth 9 points there would probably be fewer FG attempts.

As far as the extra point...I still think it's stupid!

Mayhew not optimistic expanded replay will be OK'd

Josh Katzenstein, The Detroit News 4:45 a.m. EDT March 19, 2015

East Lansing — Lions general manager Martin Mayhew does not expect his proposal to expand replay reviews to penalties to be added to the rulebook next week at the NFL's annual meetings in Phoenix, Ariz.

Following a devastating loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round of the playoffs last season, Mayhew and the Lions proposed a rule change that would allow teams to challenge any play in which a penalty flag is throw.

The proposal made it to the voting process for next week's meetings along with 12 others related to instant replay, and while Mayhew thinks interest in strong in updating those rules, he thinks there are still more steps to take before the league's competition committee makes any changes.

"I think what's going to happen is there will be more dialogue about ways to improve it," Mayhew said Wednesday at Michigan State's pro day. "I think that really it may even initiate with the competition committee about how they want to revamp it. Obviously, those guys have their finger on the pulse of what needs to change and what could be more efficient."

For the Lions, the inciting incident for the proposal was a picked-up pass interference call against Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens that would've given the Lions a first down in Dallas territory in the fourth quarter. Instead, the officials said there was no foul, and the Lions chose to punt to the Cowboys, who scored the game-winning touchdown on the ensuing drive.

Mayhew made a case for his proposal to the GM Advisory Committee at the NFL combine last month and said about 60 percent of the league was opposed to the change.

Among the other proposals on the agenda next week is one from the New England Patriots that a team can challenge any reviewable play and a challenge can be initiated by calling a timeout instead of using a red flag.

"I think there will be some changes that happen eventually, and we're going to be open to those things," Mayhew said. "Whenever it gets proposed, we're going to be open to supporting something we can all agree on. Clearly something needs to be changed or there wouldn't be so many suggestions on how to change it. From my standpoint, we're open to other ideas."

Just get rid of the XP. TD is worth 7, 2 point conversion is now worth 1 point. You're welcome.

That works.

However the one point would have to be awarded to either the offense or defense, depending on if the conversion was good. Otherwise there would be no reason not to go for the extra conversion.

Moving the extra PT back is beyond idiotic. Can you imagine a team tying a game during the final few seconds and then missing a basically unnecessary extra point to lose? It's stupid. Just give the team 7.

I'm still hoping to decide to give points for yards. Every 25 yards worth 1 point. That would be to our benefit.

That's the point. The league wants teams to go for two, or one in my scenario. So this takes that into account and works..Teams will have to practice the now 1 point conversion. Either come away with 7 or 8. You better at the conversion you have an advantage..
