5 Years 75 Million extension for Suh

Thread 1 Houston sucks because of 2013
Thread 2 (draft thread) we should draft a CB
Thread 3 if we lose our mid level vets (Houston) we're going to suck.
Thread 4 we should be like Seattle and start a 5th round and 6th round CB
Thread 5 I would die if Greenwood and Green were our starters.

Did you forget you wanted to draft a CB? Upset you can't spend big bucks for Talib (a head case)? And depending on the contract and structure of it, maybe they could get Talib.

I know I just like to point out the hypocrisy of what is said. It's rather comical.

How about the old good teams build through the drafts argument. Wanting us not lose Suh so we can spend big money is free agency is dumb IMO. That's the only reason to get rid of Suh for a bunch of overpaid free agencies. We draft EVERY YEAR regardless people. Remember that.

If your ex girlfriend sucked as hard as the Lions, she wouldn't be your ex.

Depends if she sucks that hard against 53 different guys every week. Maybe you wouldn't want that.

I never said the reason to get rid of Suh was so they could sign a bunch of overpaid free agents. You get rid of him so you don't have too much $$ tied up in 3 players now and in the immediate future. Of the "big 3" he is the most likely choice to get rid of. You can sign free agents to help fill some immediate needs and then draft for depth and building for the future.

LOL so you just want the space. The only thing that fills up that space is free agents right now. Do you want Pettigrew, Young and Hill back. It's possible to get some of them back with a Suh extension. Any draft pick from now on will be under contract for 4 years or more. Last year is three years down the road. The Lions can extend Suh(for the most cap space relief in 2014 actually), keep their own and draft well and be smart in free agency. Suh's restructures are off the books after 2015. The Lions know how to manipulate the cap. They are doing a fine job dealt a bad hand by the old CBA (causing these restructures).

This team doesn't hinge on suh. The last coupls years have shown that. He has played at a very high level and we havent seen success. With or without him our record is probably the same.
Just have to eat his contract this year and prepare to move on without him. Contracts are structured to absorb his massive cap number this year. The good news is Suh in a contract year is going to be absolutely dominate.

Do we need Suh to win. Seems obvious I suppose but 11 games in 2 years says we aren't. Maybe we only win 8 with him gone. But if he does go, we grab a DT we still have Fairley and grab a DE and you could have a good DL with maybe some extra money for something else. He's a great player but imo we don't NEED him to win games.

We need great players and Suh is a great one. Plus it's unnecessary to trade him or let him walk when you can just extend him for the most room.

We don't need great we need good.

Across the board we don't. How about we trade SUH, the great DT, for two good CB.

Would you like to explain how you're certain we'd get 2 good CBs? Even if we got 2 1st round picks for him and drafted CBs with both picks, they wouldn't necessarily be good their first year or even after that. And I doubt a team that currently has two good CBs would be willing to part with both of them for Suh.

I understand your argument (2 good > 1 great), but I don't necessarily agree with it. In the case of 2 good CBs is better than one great DT, it might be true, but I don't think the Lions would be certain to get 2 good CBs by getting rid of Suh.

I'm not saying that. Just that I rather have two good over a great. Hypothetical..

That's fine to be hypothetical, I just figured you were referring to the Suh situation since that's what this thread is about.

He's worth every fn penny. They lose him and this team is rebuilding again. Deny it all you want but it's true.

After the last couple seasons one could argue we're still rebuilding.

Having said that, I agree with your take on Suh. The guy is a rare talent and he's the sole reason why this team gets away with it's shitty 4 man rushes as much as it does.

Suh is probably worth every penny. Problem is we are overpaying for Calvin and Stafford. I know Calvin is one of the top players in the league and I love him, but a WR with a cap hit over 20 million for multiple seasons is just crazy.
