A lions fan favorite (week 17 mock drafts)

I think mingo just killed watkins on the first play. He looks like he needs to gain a good 15-20 lbs to be even close to a traditional 4/3 end

ya everyone always talks about his ceiling. But hes not even putting up decent numbers in college and like you said...he has the frame and athleticism but hes not there yet as far as a proto typical 4-3 NFL guy.

Reid looks like he'll be gone by our 2nd pick. Very consistent.

hes probably a better version of Delmas cause of his size and durability for what they do. Not sure if we want 2 thumpers backs there. Probably need a safety that can cover at some point. Elam might be a better option at that pick....i dunno.

He's definitely a big boy.

worst thing that could happen is damontre moore, werner, and joekel all get drafted right before us....truth is....it might happen. Jax and OAK oth need DE help. PHI needs a tackle. Might be looking at a trade down at that point or a reach on a guy like Milliner which I don't see Mayhew reaching to fill a need when he typically drafts BPA.

It would be funny to see them freak out and take someone like teo.

Werner wasn't very impressive vs NIU. I watched him a lot that game and he didn't do much. A lot of the game he didn't even rush cause of the NIU qbs threat to run...so it was a hard game to grade him on.

How much do you think we'll hold to the BPA strategy? In all likelihood, Moore and Joekel are gone in front of us, Lotulelei too. Mingo is probably the last player to be taken in front of us. At that point, there are a few options for BPA, but not as many that fit our scheme/needs. Jarvis Jones is probably the next best player, but is really a 3-4 rush LB. Manti Te'o is a stud LB, and could probably fit on the outside as well as inside.

The most intriguing player, to me, is Chance Warmack. You can argue about the positional value of an OG, but he seems the obvious BPA. If the team is really set on getting the most talented player, regardless of position, that's the guy. We would have to reach a bit on Milliner, and Te'o kind of overlaps with Tulloch. Reaching on a DE (not a big fan of Werner myself) or taking another DT just adds depth instead of starters.

I wish we could just switch to a base 3-4 draft Te'o and probably be a better defense. But alas the 4-3 is the defense we shall run for eternity.

I'm not sure the 3-4 makes us any better. I assume we'd see Suh and Fairley at DE, with Hill as NT. Vanden Bosch might be more useful as a 3-4 DE, but he's never played it before. We still would have two significant holes at OLB. None of our current DE's have any skill in coverage or off the line. None of our OLB's have real pass-rush ability.

3-4 or 4-3, we run into the same problem: we don't have enough quality personnel. I'd rather try to find more quality players than randomly change our entire defensive system with a questionable fit of players.

Grab the Germanator in Rd 1 follow that up with Elam in 2.

What do you guys think about taking DJ Swearinger in the mid to late rounds? He was one of South Carolina's safeties when Michigan played them. I thought he had a pretty solid game and the analysis I've found about him projects him as a mid-round pick.

Any help will due at safety but id hope hed put more of an emphasis on it than a mid round pick. Either fa or early round 2 would be perfect spots to get a quality starter.

I think Te'o makes your defense better no matter what type of scheme you run.
