Ah Skit

The "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" of which Trump tweet trumpets about incessantly should have been chock-full of limitations and exceptions towards businesses who have but a cursory presence here in the US, as well as those with half or more of their products and services being sourced outside of the country.

It should have contained incentives for getting the full cut, instead of being all inclusive, but the most deceptive part of all was the temporary tax cuts for individuals and families of modest means..ie..the "bottom" 90%. When this cut expires, and it may be only a half-life in length, there will be austerity hell to pay, if not sooner.

Also, Obama getting the Nobel is a fucking joke. That's as laughable as HRC's recent book quote, "They were never going to let me be president." Ok...not as laughable, but you get the point.

Is Turok right? Was this facetious comparison?

Nah. Money is an indicator, but it's not proof of any positive quality. Martin Skrelli (or whatever his name is) had made a bunch of money at some point. So had the Enron guys. And in the banking fallout where Lehman Brothers went bankrupt, some people made fortunes and some lost tons. I don't think who won and who lost aligns to some measure of fairness. We like our free market system to reward people in proportion to how much good they bring to society, and it does a lot of that, but it's not some rule. Van Gogh, Tesla, Gutenberg...gobs of important inventors, authors, and artists made huge contributions without getting wealthy. People are rewarded for bad stuff or not rewarded for good stuff all the time. To my knowledge, there aren't any stories about Trump bringing something to the table. Plenty of stories about lies and bullying, stories that preceded his political career. He does have that celebrity quality, that's something, usually limited to attractive people, so, more impressive than most.

he's not talking about fairness, he's talking about success. Most highly successful people have failed if not once, multiple times. I can't remember the number but the % of wealthy business owners who have gone broke at least once is shockingly high. The idea that someone doesn't have the Midas touch with every endeavor somehow impugns their success is ridiculous. I realize you probably know that but that is exactly what MC is trying to do here.

doesn't have the Midas touch??? This is a guy who flamed out of real estate spectacularly, then spent most of the last 3 decades hocking cheap vodka, clothing lines, steaks, fragrances, Trump University, cut rate travel services, a stupid "lifestyle" magazine, vitamin supplements, a moronic reality TV show, etc.

are you just willfully ignorant of Trump's career, or being intentionally dishonest?

Lol... or wait... maybe you're one of the (few) people who actually bought Trump steaks, cologne, shirts & ties, health supplements, vodka, etc.

Being a multiple failure at casino ownership in virtually unprecedented. And how many"successful" businessmen have been shut out of obtaining loans from US banks?

Yeah, but what is success and what's the significance in this context? If this isn't a discussion of merit, then I don't see why it matters. I'm saying money isn't the best indicator of merit. Success without merit isn't something to look for in a leader.

Or is your interpretation of his being fatuous a more fitting comparision?

I don't think he was being facetious or fatuous, but it's been a while since I looked up either word. without looking up either word, which would take the fun out of arguing, I'm pretty sure facetious means humorously exaggerated, while fatuous means being intentionally dumb for comedic effect.

but since his disdain for Hillary is well known among those of us who post regularly, so I think he's being direct here. He really thinks Hilary's quote is more laughable than Obama getting a Nobel Peace Prize.

I thought that he was being glib when he added ." Ok...not as laughable, but you get the point."

While I was initially a supporter of Sanders, i switched to Hillary when she won the nomination. I believe in the "checks and balances" that were our Founders intent, and having one party in control of all 3 branches of government goes entirely against my political principles.

I don't believe that she and the DNC sabotaged his campaign. Sanders avoided campaigning in states where he believed that his strong Brooklyn accent would be detrimental. That is all on him. Didn't stop a NY Yankee carpetbagger from wooing supposed "rebel" Confederate battle flag wearing/waving derplorables into hypocritically embracing him.

so if the Supreme Court leaned left and the Dems controlled both houses of Congress you would have supported Trump over Clinton? I find that hard to believe.

I also think it was neither facetious nor fatuous.

Facetious is like, for example, tongue in cheek, certainly intended to be ironically humorous.

There is no intent at comedy in being fatuous; it's in interpretation by the listener that the speaker (or writer, poster, etc.) said something silly or dumb.

A writer could have a character say something fatuous that would be funny, but it wouldn't be the intent of the character to be funny.

Classic example, in All in the Family both Edith and Archie said silly shit all the time that wasn't intended to be funny (by those characters) that was funny as hell.

That hypothetical situation hasn't occurred, and Obama was screwed out of his righful pick. I would have abstained from voting in that case. Not that it would have mattered regardless, since my county went 50K more for Trump, and was the deciding factor for his winning the state.

Well, damn, no wonder you hate red necks so much.

I'd probably hate red necks too if they were only people around me.

There aren't many rednecks here in Macomb County, but I spent a quarter of my childhood and teenaged years living in a small town within a rural area, so I am familar (and was friends with) who and what "rednecks" are. Rebel neo-Confederates aren't necessarily limited to the sticks or the South.

Trump won Macomb county percentage wise about 53-47. A number of smaller counties had percentages for Trump between 65-69 percent.

Macomb County certainly was by far the biggest county in Michigan that Trump won.

I was joking about the red necks, obviously. Certainly there far more red necky places in Michigan than Macomb County.
