Ah Skit

Is this what rolling coal is? Driving around and blasting filthy smoke into the air for no reason other than to create pollution?

That would get a 50 year jail sentence in California.

I don't know what rolling coal is.

Whatever it is it sounds dumb.

There probably isn't a single California resident who's redneck enough to want to do that.

It's the practice of modding your truck so it produces as much black smoke as possible. No actual coal.

What do you think the argument is here?

Regarding the Republican/Conservative disdain for environmentalism, there seems to be two points they dismiss it on: 1) industry trumps all - a factory, refinery, plant, etc. that employs people, and generates profits for its owner(s) is an unassailable good, and 2) the Earth/environment is so big, that no amount of toxic chemicals pumped into the atmosphere, dumped into bodies of water, or buried in the ground, can actually harm it, or harm the people who live near those things. sure some birds and fish might die, but we got plenty of birds and fish.

They also just love to "own the libs" and since libs claim to care about the environment, they don't.

It's not just to create pollution. Environmentalists have to see it for it to be doing its job. An important element is rigging it so you can flip a switch and turn it on and off. Then you go out of your way to find environmental protesters and flip the switch on as you pass them. (You also flip the switch whenever you see an electric or hybrid of course.)

I saw someone rollin' coal here in Durham once. Only once, so I don't think he's a local.

I think it's against the law pretty much everywhere.

I've seen a few giant pickup trucks around here modded for it, some of which actually have "Coal Roller" logos in the window, but never actually doing it.

I guess they get together on weekends to do it on private propety out in the country, and admire eachother's trucks. then they have a big gay circle jerk.

If anybody is bragging about that, they're probably just lying about really doing it.

Because it's their own money they're flushing down the toilet running devices and equipment and vehicles they don't need to run at the time.

Yeah, but many of their posts sure made it seem like they were dead serious. I joined FR just to respond in that thread, and promptly got "zotted" (banned) b/c of a few of my replys there about 6 years ago.

Apparently, rollin' coal on Black Lives Matter protesters counts too.

racism and pollution go hand-in-hand.

In Houston, low income black and hispanic neighborhoods are right up next to the refineries & petro-chemical plants that spew known carcinogens into the air, and there was an article last year about the high rates of cancer and lung diseases prevalent in those communities.

I assume most white Conservatives would say "So? They CHOSE to live there. They can MOVE if they don't like it."

they don't let poor white people live in those neighborhoods?

You mean the conservative disdain for conservation?

We live in weird times.

the "JOBS AND PROFITS > environment" crowd likes to portray themselves as concerned with the bottom line, and "numbers guys," but taking them at their word, it turns out they are pretty bad at math.

as the saying goes, "privatize the profits, socialize the costs." They ignore the costs on human health, environmental cleanup costs, impacts on other (less well funded) industries, reductions in property values, etc.

The real crazies will dip into the Bible to justify their actions, as in their god gave them the Earth to do with as they please. Tough to argue with that...

It shouldn't be. Anti-environmentalism is bad theology.

"The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it."

This quote is probably on the 1st or 2nd page of the Bible depending on the print size and layout.

A couple years ago Pope Francis pontificated about humanity supposed to be providing good stewardship of Earth, in regards to climate change...then shortly afterwards, former PA Sen and RC Rick Santorum appeared on CNN denouncing everything that the pope had spoken about. Was hoping that he would excommunicate Santorum, if the Pope found out about what Rick said.

Nope.

The Garden was designed to take care of itself. All Adam and Eve needed to do was to eat all they wanted except for the one Forbidden Fruit, stay naked and fuck.

Not unlike the way earth will take care of itself.

Sure, the human species may wipe itself out with excessive consumption of the host - not unlike a virus - but the planet certainly has the fortitude to ultimately heal itself, really, without the batting of an eye.

at least we put some shit on the surface of the Moon.

since it's not techtonically active and has no atmosphere, in theory our shit could be there for a really long time, undisturbed. maybe in a couple million years after we humans drive a mass extinction of 99% of species including ourselves, Hagfish or some other lowly bottom feeding organism will evolve into an intelligent spacefaring race, visit the Moon, and think "WHOA, WTF IS THIS SHIT!?!"

I'm sure they'll see the shit through a Hagfishoscope before they actually go up there.

And they'll say "look - it looks just like it looks like on the Hagfishoscope, only bigger."

They'll have no recollection that millions of years earlier, Rose Bowl floats actually looked smaller in person than they looked like on TV.
