All-Star Voting

I hate the team and the bleacher creature fans there, but how can you not vote for Konerko this year?

Um, because he's a White Sox player? I did enough of the vote for the best bs stuff. KC said it perfectly, "if you can't beat them, join 'em". And if you do still like watching the AS game, are you really going to be depressed because Fielder is starting and Konerko is next off the bench?

I think that the players should select the teams, with no guarantee of any players represented from every team. Pick the players who make up the best team as if it were a 25-man MLB unit, and play the game like that.

I'm not sure the players would do a better job. They'd vote their buddies in.

They didn't what? Vote their buddies in? I doubt back then they had big bonus opportunities if they got selected to an AS game.

Back then the game was actually meaningful to the players and winning and losing it was cause for celebration or despair, without the BS incentive of home-field advantage for the pennant winner. And it wasn't about the money, either.

They make more cash now, by a ton. Just the way most people act with loads of cash. I remember enjoying the AS game back in the 70's. It was awesome.

Game changed, it is what it is.

The players wouldn't be any better at voting than the fans.

When they announced the two captains of the home run derby, one of them and I forget who, asked people to vote for two players. Not sure they were worthy or not but players want there buddies in.

They wouldn't do any better.

Yeah, the players already vote in a few players every year, and their choices, like the fans, are consistently awful.

From the mid to late 1950's the players, managers, and coaches voted the players in, until 1970.
There was a ballot box stuffing job by cincinatti reds fans...they had like maybe 7 of their players in the lead to be starters. Commisioner Ford Frick said no ballot stuffing, changed a few to include the stars of the day, Aaron, Mays, etc.

I guess since the beginning of time, the AS voting system has been bad.
