I was just getting ready to ask about Damion Easley. (sp)

I have looked at this thread many times since the posting. Started, stopped, went to other things like the Team Notes, and Game Threads, procrastinated, and have come back now.
It is impossible for me to put "just" a 25 man team of Tigers here with our original 8 Tigers Franchise and their 111 year history in the American League. I won't add any Detroit Wolverines from the 1880's a NL franchise, but what about the Detroit Stars and Detroit Black Sox of the Negro Leagues? I don't know all the players of one of their and our HOF's magnitude, but here is my All-Time Tigers Team of over 25 players.
Sort of like an All-Star team roster:

1B : Hank Greenberg, Norm Cash.
2B : Charlie Gehringer, Lou Whitaker.
3B : George Kell, Travis Fryman.
SS : Alan Trammell, Harvey Kuenn.
LF : Willie Horton, Bobby Veach.
CF : Ty Cobb, Norm "Turkey" Stearnes (Detroit Stars).
RF : Al Kaline, Sam Crawford.
C : Bill Freehan, Mickey Cochrane.
DH : Harry Heilmann, Miguel Cabrera.
PH : Gates Brown, Cecil Fielder.
Bench : Dick McAuliffe, Tom Brookens, Mickey Stanley, Heinie Manush, Goose Goslin, Rudy York, Kirk Gibson, Lance Parrish.

SP : Hal Newhouser.
SP : Jack Morris.
SP : Mickey Lolich.
SP : Jim Bunning.
SP : Justin Verlander.
Long Relief : Tommy Bridges.
Long Relief : Dizzy Trout.
Long Relief : Denny McLain.
Long Relief : Earl Whitehill.
Long Relief : Schoolboy Rowe.
Set-Up/Closer : Willie Hernandez.
SetUp/Closer : John Hiller.

My Tigers 40 Man Roster.

1B Coach : Leyland.
3B Coach : Hughie Jennings.
P Coach : Johnny Sain.
Bench Coachs : Charlie Dressen, Fred Hutchinson.
Bullpen Coach : Steve O'Neill.
Honorary Coach : Dick Trawcewski.
Manager : Sparky.

Tigers lineup :
1. Cobb,
2. Gehringer,
3. Kaline,
4. Greenberg,
5. Heilmann,
6. Kell,
7. Horton,
8. Trammell,
9. Freehan,

Tigers are not as overall strong on the left side, as up the middle and the right side where you have All-Time Greats, Top 1 to 3, Top 1 - 5, and Top 10 at their positions in MLB History.

Let's Play Ball. and hope it's not too over the top for some of you.
But let me add, it was difficult leaving certain players off whether in comparing counting stats, sabr, or my mind's eye, or appreciation of players. Such was the case with Northrup, Lemon, Pete Fox, Gee Walker, Virgil Trucks, Johnny Bassler, Billy Rogell, Magglio, Higginson, Ray Boone, Frank Lary, Dan Petry, Lu Blue, Donnie Bush, Tony Phillips, Polanco, Tettleton, Pudge, George Mullin, Hooks Dauss.
Some with the head, some with the heart. It wasn't easy, just one man's opinion on our Tigers.

KC-no matter how big a roster, there will always be glaring omissions. That is why I stopped at 25!

KC no love for Billy Martin as a coach?

LOL j/k

I thought about billy, and liked him as Tigers manager until finding out about how the Tigers veteran team didn't. Kaline would always keep his mouth shut as the protypical classy player he was. But Willie, Freehan, and especially Northrup among many did not like him and his style. Plus from what has been written he was trying to get the yankee's managers job while with the Tigers. Add that Jim Campbell regretted the hiring almost immediately.
That team I picked, there are probably at least 8 players that would have fought him and maybe more.

Mayo Smith was the toughest ommission in the coaching picks for me as a bench coach to Sparky. Kaline always said that Hutchinson and more so Dressen had more baseball smarts than the rest of his managers.

Dick Tracewski spent 24 years as a Tiger coach (1972-1995), the longest tenure as a coach in Tiger history. I would have added him to the coaches list, at least as a honorary member.
