Im surprised with the new found "AND 1!" yell after a layup that the league hasnt brought that to light as taunting. I find it very annoying and its really just started about 2-3 years ago. You cant even stare at another player too long without having a ref talk to you. You cant mouth off to other players or teams, Im surprised this is still accepted. Its not serious but it is really annoying, Shut up and play ball. You can mouth off in the pros...........

what? People have been saying that since i was in elementary school like 20-25 years ago. This is not a new thing.

Actually, if you watch the fab 5 documentary on ESPN, you'll see Jalen Rose saying it once or twice.

I had seasons tickets from 95-99 to MSU games and dont remember hearing the "yell" once. In the last 2 years youll hear it 5-10 times a game. I remember the "And one" clothing line but the yell has became prevalent and overused the last few years like nothing before. I played hoops from 8-18 and never heard the "yell" from any team.

Gotta agree with Monster here.....that is old news. I also played BB from probably 6-18 and it was a constant from my teenage years and on.

The and 1 YELL has really surfaced the last 2 years. The and 1 and "count it" saying has been around forever. Now I see people with a botched finger roll hitting the top of the backboard yeling it. Annoying as Justin Bieber...

Played basketball from 1990-2004. Whether you're just noticing it or not, shouting "And 1" has been around since I can remember. If you're going to make that illegal you might as well get rid of anything audible.

Floor slapping?

There's a general brashness that's taking over athletics and we'll just see more and more of it. The old days of just celebrating with your teammates are gone and there's a concerted effort to draw attention to the individual.

Do you have any college games recorded lets say prior to 2000? if so watch one and tell me how many times you here it yelled top of the lungs.

Agree, I hate to sound like an old busy body but youre right. If anyone has a hoops game prior to 2000 or so watch it tell me how many times you hear that yelled top of the lungs 5-10 times a game,id love to know. The shot might be WAY OFF and its the same thing haha.

I used to play a lot of pickup games at east bank and ffc in Chicago, there was so much "get mine" basketball and it killed me.

I stopped playing after soph year at state. The intramural games were fun, that was the last time I could dunk. Id struggle to get the rim now, "get mine" basketball, thats funny.

I did that one time when I was 12, I saw Gary Payton do it and he was one of my favorite players. I felt like a retard afterwards so I never did it again.

If I recorded it prior to 2000, it would be on VHS. I haven't had a VCR in several years, I guess it's just word vs word.

"And 1" was what you said when calling your own fouls on the playground. It's not really a rub it in your face thing. I did it throughout high school. I guess I didn't always yell it, but if the shot was a big one or we were on a run, hell yeah I'd let loose some emotion. I don't get why you're so against doing this. I'd almost call it a habit. Actually, yes. I'd call it a habit.

I guess its more of a personal annoyance, we all have them. Its overused now and yelling it all the time is dumb. Yelling it when the shot you took hits the top of the backboard, more so. I just played ball and didnt make an attempt to draw attention to myself (other than production) in any of the sports I played. I know my high school coaches wouldnt have allowed YELLING IT. Im also sick of "adults" wearing makeup and costumes to football games. Players trash talking after EVERY routine play. I guess we all have our pet peeves and those are a few of mine. Let the flaming begin!
