And 1 !!

Nobody ever says and one on the playground because it implies one free throw and nobody shoots free throws in pickup hoops.

Interestingly its a flaw in the game since you can hack all you want on game point and the other team would get it at the top of the key.

The and 1 thing has been a part of basketball since Moses wore short pants. I've done it and had it done to me. Not sure why you guys think it's a big deal. If it's done right in the face of the defender I'd have a problem with it, but if the player just yells it out in the heat of the moment I don't feel it's that big of a deal.

I too have heard the "and 1" thing as long as I can remember, I never really did it when I played high school/intramural, but many did. However I would do the referee arm signal for basket plus the foul.

We always played with the call your own fouls rule. unless it was an obvious hack, nobody ever called one, but it was still there.

Yeah same here. Everyone still yells the "and 1" though regardless. Even with no free throws it's another way to talk a little trash. It's just part of the game.

While it's true we don't shoot free throws on the playground, saying/yelling "And 1" was basically saying "Yes, you hacked like a punk but I still made my shot, try again bitch."

Ohhh and ive agreed on this several times in the thread. Also, taking your finger "count it" as well has been around for eons. Ill say it once again YELLLLLING ANNNNNND 1!!!!!!!!!!! top of the lungs (multiple times during a game) for any play that might have contact hasnt. Its been in the recent last few years . If someone has a game from 2000-2008 (lets say) and hears it being yelled many times top of lungs id love to know im wrong. Ill reiterate this in an hour so when someone says that "the term has been around a long time"
ahhaha. Sbees first response on this thread is spot on.

Is it worse than Mutombo wagging his finger at a player after blocking his shot? The Fab five's antics? Duke slapping the floor on d(yes, we do that now)? If none of that stuff bothered you then I don't see why this does.

Again, we all have personal annoyances and this is one of mine. I found The Fab Five a little brash but Im not from Michigan so at that time I found them more entertaining than anything.

Right, that was more directed at the notion that this type of thing is new.

YELLING AND 1 at any sort of contact top of the lungs IS in college hoops! The term and saying it on occasion, isnt.
