OT Anthony Davis announced he is stepping away from the game for at least a year or two. This team is going to be a giant mess.

Get Startedtwo VERY young players retiring has nothing to do with the organization...it has to do with these kids figuring out that being alive and healthy when they are 40 is more important than playing football. I hope this trend continues.
lol @ their front office firing Harbaugh as if he was the problem.
I'm pretty sure the decision to let go of Jimmy H had more to do with his wearing out his welcome and his friction with upper management than it did with W's & L's.
Sometimes both parties benefit and get to move in different directions.....I think that is the case with SF
it makes you wonder if the passion just isn't there to play for this new head coach though. Its a very odd coincidence that so many people retire right when harbaugh leaves and this new guy gets promoted. Obviously, we'll never know if those guys stick around if Harbaugh is still coach...maybe that comes out in the next few years.
I've been wondering the same thing.
At the very least, the coach isn't exactly inspiring them to keep playing.
I certainly don't KNOW what the decision making process for these players was. I would doubt very little of it had to do with the coach....incoming or outgoing.
If you need a new coach to motivate you THAT much......you were 98% gone anyway.....IMO.
I don't know if that's true at all. Players getting around 30 are starting to wonder how many more years they have.
Get a coach that you believe is just going to lose, and you're a couple of years from free agency, and maybe you start thinking twice about how many more you really want to play.

How do they know that about the coach at this point? This guy could have semi-retired (a short year break) because he thinks it's a 5 win team. But it's a 5 win team possible because of all the players they lost, not because of the coach IMO.
The problem I have with this is the others retired. This guy isn't..he just wants to rest. But if the team gets better he'll be back in a heart beat.
I think the new coach was already on the staff as like a dline coach or something. So all these guys know him and its possible they don't respect him. Its obviously not certain if that's the case....its just really really weird so many people retire the same offseason this goes down.
