Another reason not to hire Caldwell

Why should a fan have to support what the team does if they disagree? That makes no sense.

Because a fan cheers for their team.
I promise you I was not happy to hear that the Lions hired Caldwell, but now that he's hired, I'm hoping the best for him. He's the Lions head coach now. Are you planning on continually complaining as long as Caldwell is coach? Because you're going to have a pretty miserable life for the next few years if that's what you're planning on.

If you weren't happy why would you be behind the Lions and their decision? I can be disapointed in the decision and vent about it. That doesn't mean I want the Lions to fail. I hope Caldwell turns out great and I am wrong about the hire....I just don't think I am wrong.

You're an idiot. But that's beside the point. Come Sunday everyone here well root for this fuckin team. Wee have for years..But that doesn't mean we have to be happy with all their decisions and be "supportive". Fk that..

Yes, because hot commodity coaches always work out for teams. Come on guys, I'm not 100% behind this hire, but some of you are taking this way too far. Caldwell has worked with really good QBs, so I don't think we have too much to worry about.

Bill Belichick wasn't a popular HC in Cleveland and nobody really wanted him in NE except Robert Kraft. It's not always about flash. It's about fit. If he fits this team, I'm 100% behind him. Until I see the product on the field, I'll hold my tongue. I think some of you need to chill the fuck out.

I already vented. I've been venting since Whisenhunt accepted the Titans job. I just hope in a couple months people aren't still venting about the decision (probably will though). Until we see the Lions play a game with Caldwell as coach, I think it's fair to give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, he's not going anywhere for a while. But I'm fine with people venting for the next couple days because it was a disappointing choice of head coach.

It can't make you feel too good when one of the best run franchises wanted to get rid of their OC because he couldn't handle that job and then one of the worst run franchises hires that same man for a more demanding position (head coach).

Name a qb hes "worked really well" with.....and dont fucking say peyton manning lol. Flacco regressed with caldwell. Peyton is better in denver and trust me....his success in indy had nothing to do with gym coldwall.

This is what I feel like. And I'm sorry that Mitch has to resort to namecalling when I just don't feel like bashing Caldwell anymore.

Actually the Jets were going to make Belichick the head coach when Parcells left but he said he was going to New England. So Wiz pulled a damn Belichick on us.

Every head coach fails here, so in the end it probably wouldn't've mattered who they hired.

Peyton made Peyton better, that dude pisses excellence. I would be fine with the Lions making Caldwell QB coach, anything above that...not so much.

You're right. Will he be running the offense? I don't think so. Will he work with Stafford at times? I'm sure.

I think the problem is because everything is focused on fixing Matt Stafford. But he isn't our only problem. They didn't look at DC because well our dumb QB needs help, and Caldwell won't work with him anyway, the OC and QB Will.

I just think the whole process stinks.

Overreaction Tuesday.

Let's see if he can replicate his 14-2 first season as HC.

Flacco was also throwing the ball 50 times per game with a running game that didn't do shit and an offensive line that would make the Wolverines OL look good. Oh and you know, Baltimore's WRs this year were brilliant.

I don't think there's an OC in the league that could have fixed that mess.

Well personally I called the wrong person idiot. I actually don't think you're an idiot though I didn't I agree with your posts. It was that goofball who thought was an idiot, what was his name..well anyway sorry I called the wrong person an idiot.

I agree. Like I said, I"m not 100% behind this hire, but I understand why they did it. Whether he gets credit for Peyton or not, he's been around two really good QBs and has plenty of experience. As long as he's not calling the plays with his playbook, I'll be happy.

Stafford cuts his INTs in half or even by 1/3, we probably win 2-3 more games. DC will be a big one. I'm hoping it's somebody with experience and a no-shit attitude.

If you want stats, look at Peyton's stats the year before Caldwell was his QB coach (2001) and Caldwell's first year there (2002).

Comp-Att Cmp% Yards TDs INTs
2001: 343-547 62.7% 4131 26 23
2002: 392-591 66.3% 4200 27 19

Before Caldwell was his QB coach, Peyton's best completion % was 62.7%. After Caldwell came, Peyton's worst completion % has been 65% in 2006.

DC is likely going to be Teryl Austin

Giving Caldwell no credit for Peyton is dumb. Especially after Peyton's 2001 season. Peyton will tell you and has in the press said differently I'm sure.

Ravens 2012 and Ravens 2013 had very different talent levels and injuries.

We'll see on the coordinators and how they reduce turnovers, force more turnovers and if they still give up the big plays. TBD on this hire. Give him a year at least.
