I think that is mostly a coincidence. Avila was the starter during the hot start but had very little to do with it...he just happened to be the catcher for most days.

Avila's OBP was north of .400 at the end of that hot streak and above .500 for the first 5 games. Might be disingenuous to say he had very little to do with it.

Everyone was hot those first 13 games...hitters and pitchers. This started with Reb saying it wasn't a coincidence that the Tigers were winning with Avila in the lineup. Over time...yes...he is better than the backup catchers...which he should be since he is the starter. But this year...it is just a coincidence because of the small sample size and the entire team being on fire during those first 13 games.
