Awful Basketball

I unfortunately predicted this team would make the sweet 16 still after the Kentucky debacle. I know anything can happen the next 3 months and crazier things have happened but I'm really regretting that proclamation.

My prediction was "Sweet 16 at best", so we were kind of on the same page.

Also nothing in all of sports angers me as much as poor free throw shooting. It's absolutely inexcusable and is costing us games.

I never shot under 70% for the year from 5th grade through 9th. That factor alone is going to cost us 4-5 games, especially when the avg foul differential is rarely in our favor.

I love Izzo and quite frankly trust him to right the ship but without Schilling this team isn't going anywhere.
I think the game has passed Izzo and he hasn't really adjusted. He loves short point guards who can't shoot. There are teams that have point guards that are a couple inches shorter than our center!! Tum Tum brings absolutely nothing to the team. Bigger guards abuse him and all he's really good for is a charge or two on the defensive end. I don't think that's worth playing 4 on 5 on offense every damn trip down the floor. Also, we have an athletic team, extend the fucking defense out a little bit! We get torched by the 3 because we allow people to catch the ball with so much space. Put some pressure on the guards.

This is one of the best posts ive seen in awhile. Very accurate!!

Bad team right now. We're starting a 6-6 walk on at center and a 6-4 white dude at power forward. If schilling is done for the season we aren't making the NCAA tourney.

Winston needs to start now and I think that's coming very soon. Ward needs to start and play 30 minutes. Langford is not very good right now.

i agree with a lot of this but I'm not so sure Izzo has an affinity for undersized PGs - I just don't think he's capable of recruiting elite PGs and so he takes what he can get. Maybe I'm missing someone - and i know draymond played some point but he wasn't recruited as a PG - but I think at 6'3" Marcus Taylor is the tallest PG we've had since 6'3" Mark Montgomery - class of '92.

Bell and Anderson both played a lot of point

Haha, fuck you, bitch.

Same goes to Sbee. I can understand taking a break from the boards, but after all that psychological crap he peddled on the UM board, for him to completely disappear once MSU fball & bball went in the shitter is laughable.

definitely not recruited as a PG.

Go back and watch his HS tape. Just because he doesn't look like a traditional pg doesn't mean that wasn't what he's always been. He played some forward early in his MSU career because we had Appling, Trice and Harris at guard his first 2 years. That doesn't mean he wasn't going to be a point guard.

Go back and look at his recruiting info. Every recruiting site had him listed as a small forward except rivals who had him listed as a shooting guard. Are you saying Izzo, who has had 1 other PG over 6'3" in 22 years had his eye on him to run the point in his senior year. The point is Izzo hasn't come close with elite big PGs and if he recruited DV to eventually play point, he's the only coach in America that looked at him that way.

Even if you're right, that's 2 PGs in 22 years over 6'3" - neither one of them an elite PG recruit - and a bunch of even smaller guys. I think my point is pretty well made.

On a good note. Cassius Winston is going to be an All American here in a few years. Kid just has it.

I watched him run the point on one of the best HS teams in Michigan history.

OK, but he didn't play the point at MSU until he was a senior so I doubt he was recruited as a PG. And who did we beat out for his services at the point? His offer sheet wasn't that strong after MSU - uofm, wisco, Butler, Georgetown, Oakland, Xavier, etc. He massively outperformed and he doesn't come remotely close to disproving the point that Izzo can't recruit elite PGs with size - like Jalen Rose who ran the point on by far the best Michigan HS team I've seen play, definitely better than Valentine's Sexton teams. Izzo recruited him as an assistant but never came close with him.
