Bigger Disgrace to Baseball?

Tigers should have won 1 more game, Boston should have won 1 more game PERIOD. Don't count on other teams to fight for you. It's their choice.

I can understand getting ready for the playoffs and I can even excuse the yanks for tanking to avoid having to possibly face Boston in the championship. However, when teams like the Angels who have no reason to rest their starters since this is the last game, I feel that its disrespectful to the game and its past players. The integrity of the game has a lot to do with why it's America's Pastime.
Proof read your comments before you hit the post button. You should take a vacation or a day off or two once in awhile. You're kind of annoying.

Disrespectful? And past players? You sound like this new to sports and new to baseball. Its been going on for years, and decades and more decades. And what about the Yankees, they were up 7-0. And the BP who blew it were regular BP guys.

And maybe the Angels thought Weaver had pitched enough this season. I notice Cleveland didn't put up much of a fight. They threw rookie pitcjers out there. If you get upset with Yanks or Angels, then Clev is in same boat.

Yankees didn't owe anyone shit..they got out to a 7-0 lead and blew it. End of story. They played tough that game and took out starters as the game went on. If Jeter pulls a hammy running out a grounder in the 9th inning of that game, Girardi looks like an idiot. Hell they played Tex and he got them that big lead. They could have just rested everyone last night. They played Montero and he left the game hurt. The yankees played EXACTLY how they should have with nothing on the line. They didn't lay down but they were smart about it. I have ZERO problem with the way any of the baseball was played yesterday other than thinking Reyes was a bit of a bitch for asking to be taken out. I don't blame Reyes though, Braun had an opportunity to win the title last night and he came up empty..his fault.

Btw I voted Roids...it changes the way we look at a complete era of baseball and makes some of the leagues most legendary players cheaters. Only sport I can think of that has that darkness to it.

This^^^^

The Yankess (who I hate, even more than the Cowboys Beez :) didn't owe anyone anything. The only imperative is to ready themselves for the playoffs.

The Angels probably didn't tank, they just aren't that good.

Reyes was a disgrace. But he seems like a POS anyway.

Thanks for that backhand in the middle of your complimental agreeing buddy. lol

Except for the relative unusualness of a team blowing a 7 run lead in the late innings - which nevertheless happens from time to time - and except for the implications - monumental implications, one could say - of a few of the ballgames - there was nothing particularly out of the ordinary regarding the way the ballgames were played last night.

Love it or hate it...McGuire v Sosa was the funnest time to watch baseball. It didnt matter what stadium they were in the seats were packed and flash bulbs were going off all over the place.

What?? Then why expand rosters in September?? It's to see what guys you have in the minors can do in the show. I have ZERO problem with the Angles giving young guys a shot to see what they can do.

Look through the history of baseball. It is FILLED with guys who got Sept call ups that never played again. You show me where the rule states that "September callups or backup players can only play in Sept games against sub .500 teams because playing in a game against a team in a pennant race diminishes the integrity of the game"?

You find that rule for me and I'll apologize. Otherwise, shut the fuck up....you sound like a whiney little baby!!

Jose Reyes is not a winner, and only cares about stats. Let him finish his career on a irrelevant losing squad for all I care. As for the Angels, it is disappointing that they played scrubs and minor leaguers. It could be said that Scoscia did it as payback for the Weaver-Guillen humiliation earlier in the year. But, Leyland responded by saying he would have done the same thing had the roles been reversed, and that takes away some of the sting. It's possible Skip was trying to cover for a fellow colleague, as he has done before. I mean what is he gonna say? "F-ing horseshit move"? Still, it does diminish the purity of the game just a little.

Do you realize that at least a half dozen times (depending on if you believe some of the "sources" of the stories) during his streak, Lou Gehrig batted lead off in an away game and then went to the bench to keep his streak alive?? A couple of those at bats ended with him getting on base and then being taken out for a runner.

Look it up.

That guy only cared about himself and he diminished the purity of the game just a little huh???

It's always been called 'having a cup of coffee..."

From Wikipedia: A "cup of coffee" is North American sports terminology for a short time spent by a minor league player at the major league level. The idea behind the term is that the player was only in the big leagues long enough to have a cup of coffee before being returned to the minors, or simply to describe a brief stint served with a professional team. The term originated in baseball, is extensively used in ice hockey, and rarely in basketball since the NBA has never implemented a true farm system."

A number of posters to this board don't really know the sports they follow.

Not really.

Lou Gehrig also hit .361 in the WS and won 8 of them, making him one of the WINNINGEST players ever, whereas Reyes has won 0 titles. Big difference. I love how with baseball there is almost always a statistical counterpoint.

I honestly don't see how this is a counterpoint. Having titles and being a better player doesn't make it any less cheesy or fraudalent to do.

At least a half a dozen times, eh? In over 2000 games, means nothing. There have been plenty of instances like this, not playing to protect a record, batting title. Hell, even Dunn sat out for a long while because they didn't want him with the lowest BA ever.

Right or wrong, it just is. And the purity of the game? Since players have been doing this since the beginning of baseball, maybe the sitting to protect records is the purity of baseball.

Didn't Dunn still earn that record? lmao

That was my point exactly. Next time I'll use the "sarcasm off" button for ya.

No, I got your subtle sarcasm :) Just adding to it with my own brand of awesome.
