Cabrera For MVP!

I think that Cabrera should be a lock for it. Right now his biggest enemy will be the Verlander vote split. He got the two biggies that I think he needed with the batting title and 30 home runs. Plus with Boston getting knocked out it should eliminate the Gonzalez/Ellsbery competition.

Verlander Cy Young, Miggy MVP!!!

Miggy will get some votes but I would be surprized if he got any first place votes. His AVG was excellent but he was to far down the list on RBI and HR. Those power numbers matter alot to the voters.

I HATE the "His teams not in contention so he doesn't win" arguement. They need to change it to MOP because thats what the award really means. The best player in baseball should win the award regardless of how the other guys play on his team. If a guy hits .300 with 50 hrs and 120 rbi I'm not snubbing him because his team finished in last place.

I agree. Some years you have to be a playoff player, other years you don't. Pitchers are eligible, but some don't vote for them no matter what. I think it should be "who was the best player" and vote for that guy.

Fair is fair. Cabrera was disqualified the last two years because the Tigers didn't win. Hamilton missed the last month of the season and still was the MVP over him last year. Now is not the time to change the unwritten MVP rule of "you can not be MVP unless your team wins"

Hamilton 2010 MVP .359 32hrs. 100rbi
Cabrera 2010 .329 38hrs. 126rbi

Power numbers count a lot???

If I can't even get Detroit fans to support him then I guess that he doesn't have much of a chance.

How about his OPS, over .1000 and 2nd in AL. And his SLG is pretty high. So why HR, they mean jack. And RBI could be what's in front of you. And he still managed 110.

As far as MVP, their really is no clear definition. So Most Valuable or Most Offensive it doesn't really matter. But Miggy is good either way you see it. IMO though, Bautista is the only one besides Miggy that should win it. But somehow the stupid voters will vote for Grandy or something stupid like that.

I never said Cabby wasnt the MVP I just dont think Boston falling a game shy of the playoffs discredits Jacoby or Gonzales is all.

Mitch- I meant most outstanding player. I think we both agree that Miguel deserves it. I think Jacoby may be closer than Joey Bats. I haven't broken down Bautistas numbers but I did break down Jacoby and Miggys in the other thread.

I was just confirming what you said :)

I'm not sure when you can start voting but I bet some voted weeks ago, others probably had their mind made up in June.

Might be totally wrong, deservedly or not, and even if his numbers fell off a bit during the last month or so, but I think that Grandy may win AL MVP.

This b/c of his surge in homers and RBIs, (and Ks that closely matched his rookie season) and despite the fact is that his career-best season was and is still '07 with the Tigers, IMO, and it may always be.

I also want Miggy to win MVP, or JV if not him, but no telling how the vote will go, as they may cancel each other out enough to give it to Grandy instead. The Dead Sox' Ellsburied by them missing out on the postseason, otherwise he or perhaps AGone may have had a good chance, too...

There is no way that Granderson should get it .260 should eliminate him right off the bat. Plus he plays in that line up with that ball park which creates inflated numbers. Johnny Damon hit 20 something home runs there.

I don't think that anyone can top Cabrera's numbers. Doubles, 30 hrs. 100 RBI, batting title. His team won. There isn't anyone with a better resume.

He might win it. But when someone, okay lets call him miggy has a better avg, obp, slg, ops and the other numbers some like, war and war plus or etc, Miggy is a clear choice, at least over Granderson. But he is the Yankees. So who knows.

Jacoby should win it before Grandy imo.

No problem with that but Grandy, for awhile, was talked about a ton because of his home runs.

WPA/LI

1. Bautista 6.8
2. Cabrera 6.2
3. Verlander 6.2

4. Ellsbury 4.8
5. Gonzalez 4.5
6. Weaver 4.4
7. Granderson 3.7
8. Ortiz 3.7
9. Napoli 3.7
10. Gordon 3.6

WAR

1. Bautista 8.6
2. Verlander 8.6
2. Ellsbury 7.2
3. Cabrera 7.1
4. Gonzalez 6.9
5. Sabathia 6.9
6. Pedroia 6.8
7. Weaver 6.6
8. Longoria 6.3
9. Beckett 6.2
10. Shields 6.1

Clearly, the MVP should go to Bautista, Cabrera or Verlander. However, becuase of East-Coats Bias I could see a Yankee (Granderson or Cano) or Sox (Ellsbury, Gonzalez or Pedroia) winning it.

Maybe those Sox players will split votes. Not sure about NY, Cano doesn't seem to be mentioned much. And I hope JV doesn't take votes away from Miggy. But the WPA/LI is huge for JV considered its a pitcher.

I don't buy the WAR stat. It is hard for me to believe that a superstar player is only worth 1 win a month. If you use that stat it says that the Tigers would win their division without Verlander or without Cabrera. I don't think so.
