Caldwell: Resigning Suh one of Lions highest priorities

And he's the best defensive player on our team. The best DT in the game and one of the best players in all of football. Yet people want him gone...lol. Fkn priceless

If you sign Suh you are probably cutting Stafford or CJ in 2016. Either that or being prepared to Let Levy, Slay, Ansah walk, Never being able to keep a decent O-lineman.

Slay is signed through 2016 cheap. Ansah through 2016 and has a 5th year option.

Levy can be brought back with Suh.

Tulloch and Bush are the big contracts that will go leaving room for Suh and Levy.

Cap rising to 140 million. We are 20 million under now with Suh already counting 13 million of that (due to option he won't exercise and restructure/option bonus amounts). Year 2 of Suh deal wouldn't be bad because the restrucutre money comes off the books when the new deal money rises.

Oline comes from the draft. LG and a RT. Those are cheap for 4 years.

RT should be a lock in rd 1 or 2 this year...but that's drafting need and we don't do that. cough top 10 te cough.

TE pick far from done to be judging. Look at all rookie TEs. Bad numbers. Give Ebron next year. Remember rookie Slay?

TE was a need. See Fauria's injury and Pettigrew's passing contributions.

Our whole oline outside of Swanson will not be under contract by 2016 I believe.

We better hope Mayhew hits on Day 1 starters going forward if we sign Suh. If Suh, Staff, and Cj are all on the roster in 2016 and or 2017, we can afford no one.

There is going to be no way to realistically sign Suh to a cap friendly deal the first year, he is going to command a sizeable bonus and pretty high base salaries throughout the contract.

The base will be low year one for Suh. Just like Calvin's 120 million deal was really low and Stafford. Suh will get a big bonus, but that is spread over 5 years at least (or life of contract if less). There is a way to sign Suh.

Here is JJ Watts deal with only a 10 mil signing bonus and year 2 10 mil roster bonus. Other than 2015 not bad. 2014 picture that plus 9 million due to the resturctures. So that would 13 million. Which is what Suh's number is counting in 2015 right now. So still 20 million under the cap in 2015. I wouldn't go with the roster bonus method.

2018 and 2019 would be about 10 million higher each. And that's worst case Watt money scenario.

Next year is not the year of my concern. 2016 or 2017 is where it gets tricky. If you are signing Suh, you are cutting Stafford or CJ. There really isn't much other option in my opinion.

Another Year of 80's QB rating I'm cutting Stafford in 2016 and taking the 11m cap hit.

And 2016 won't be bad. 13-15 range again. The 9 million comes off the books after 2015 leaving room for a base increase.

You can handle Suh, Calvin and Stafford. We just did it this year with Suh at 22 million. Two in the mid teens and one the low 20s is very doable. We had plenty of other next level contracts too (Quin, Levy, Tulloch, Bush) and got some free agents (Tate/Ihedigbo).

look at all rookie wr production. that's how that pick was sold....to be an offensive weapon.

Did he gets his 120 targets, 80 receptions and 800+ yards because I was told that would happen?

The harder pill to swollow is not the lak of production from Ebron, its the fact that this years wr class was so deep and we got a guy that catches one td and can run a 5 yard out.
