A couple of come from behind losses will probably get him out of there, hopefully.

Ugh

Hopefully they'll hire someone else to make in-game decisions, but that's probably never happening.

If Cooter and Austin leave, will the people lauding this decision still think it was the right move?

It's whatever at this point. It's a one-year, maybe even half season trial run for Caldwell.

Where would they go? Sounds like Mularkey will get the Titans job, which leaves only lateral moves or college positions.

I'm fine with this move. Not "excited", but fine. And honestly, I don't think there was a head coach out there that would have been "exciting" to fans.

The new GM did exactly what I was hoping he would do. He took his time, he got to know the situation, and he made what he felt was the right decision rather than catering to the fans and media.

And on that note, I'd like to point out again how full of shit the media is on rumors. Everyone had Caldwell pegged to be fired on Monday... no Tuesday... NO Wednesday for real this time... any minute now... any time now..... He's still the coach.

This is why I don't put any stock into any of these rumors. The media, which I am a part of, clamors to get the story first in the age of the internet, not to get it right.

Some people on here discussed Cooter having connections with Gase. So who knows.

It's an okay move. I'd rather see someone else in here because I think Caldwell is an absolute atrocious in-game manager and people want him around for his coordinators and the fact that people like him. But whatever, we'll see how it goes.

Why is it a joke? Who did you want?

Anyone else, he's one of the worst head coaches in the league. Your head coach isn't supposed to be the third best coach on your roster. That's a recipe for disaster going forward. Yay, we can be good until he can't find a coordinator to coach for him...so exciting.

This is fucking bullshit though, I'm changing my avatar anyway in the hopes that this guy gets canned. I think there's a good chance too.

Your head coach is supposed to impact your team more than being a game manager. And he's not even good at that. So far he has shown he is a good guy who is good at making connections to people. Nothing at football . Lol, that's why he's a joke.

I wonder if anyone has really examined the possibility that the second half turnaround of this team was more due in part to Mayhew's exist and Caldwell's coaching than Cooters?

The reality is (and I am sure the angry people will be here any moment to throw their hands over their ears and yell "NUH UH" repeatedly, so this is for the less emotional more intelligent folks) we have no idea what was happening behind the scenes.

In the second half, some minute adjustments were made, but they were impactful. Ihedigbo sat down behind Quddus. We stopped running the ball as much and went back to throwing the ball. Stafford free-wheeled a lot more. We saw some different receivers get into the mix. Changes on the O-Line. Etc...

No one can really be sure that Mayhew wasn't telling Caldwell which players he was damned well going to play because of contracts, the balance he wanted, etc...

Now, I am in no way trying to make excuses for anything that was done. I don't really care who was at fault last season... the first half completely sucked. Blame everyone for all I care.

But I often find it interesting that fans with the absolute LEAST access to any knowledge at all, think that can tell you who is to blame for every problem, and who should be hired and fired to correct it.

If even ONE person on this board was half as smart as they think they are with this stuff, they would be our team president, and we'd have won 8 superbowls in the last 5 years.
