Caldwell's Staff

Here is what hurts at this point about Caldwell's staff...

Austin has been AMAZING.. which means teams will be looking at him as a head coach soon, if not next year.

We finally get a D-Coordinator that can coach guys up, and we're going to lose him.

True but I think one year is a bit too soon. He was the one I liked the most when we did the hires..great so far..

When you take a team that has played so poorly under a defensive minded coach like Schwartz, and turn them into a high powered defense with virtually no new blood on that side of the ball (Ihedigbo being the exception), you're going to draw a lot of attention.

Some team with an up and coming defense that needs that needs a coaching change at the end of the year is going to at least look into him.

One thing ive learn over the years, a defensive minded or offensive minded coach..it's still some one else calling plays..we've had our share of DC and OC as coach for us and it hasn't help.

Remember when the Lions hired all those QB coaches to help out Stafford?

It was a huge Mistake picking Joe Lombardi for offensive coordinator.. I should have known better...

That doesn't seem to be working out very well, maybe Lombardi should go back to being a QB's coach and bringing in someone else to run the offense. Well maybe not "Anyone" Norv for example would be even worse.

I may have to take my last post to this thread from 2014 back, even norv may have been better, this Lombardi guy is an unmitigated disaster

I bet Austin is kicking himself for not taking a head coaching gig (if he was offered one). Man this defense sucks hard core.

talk is cheap...you can say that Caldwell helped manning all you want....and people can disagree with you all they want. Stafford is a talented qb yes? He has the arm and hes smart enough to run a pro style offense. Soooooo....if he sucks this year...then Caldwell blows. And if if shows progress...then ill give Caldwell some credit. Its very simple. If I had to guess one way or the other Id lean toward Stafford performing better in Linehans offense just to the mere fact of comfort level alone. Since im a glass half empty guy when it comes to the lions this ofcourse allows for the chance to be pleansantly surprised if Caldwell turns him into the top 10 qb everyone thinks he is or better yet the top 3 qb hes being paid to be.

yup I was right....Caldwell blows and Lombardi sucks.

They got their win, now they are safe for another season.

I don't think a 1-15 season saves their jobs, but it does bring about the question of how many wins do they need to keep their jobs.

I lean toward a 5-11 season and they are spared, except for Lombardi who is the sacrificial lamb.

they will win 5 games...at least. My guess is they go 6-10 or 7-9. A lot of fans and upper management will be fooled because that would mean they finish 6-5 or 7-4 but that doesn't change the fact that they fucked up the first 5 games!

Doesn't the phrase "sacrificial lamb" kind of intone that he was innocent, but had to be the scapegoat? It feels like it does, and he's the most guilty bastard in this whole ordeal.

He's the Ringmaster of the ShitShow.
